Rating: Summary: Fun, practical and highly educational Review: A very helpful guide for all owners of guinea pigs. What I like most of this book is the section on the guinea pig's body language. This is something that other guinea pig guide books do not have. Owners will learn from this chapter on how to communicate with their piggies better.I have found that books from the "Barron's Complete Pet Owner's Manuals Series" to be very helpful in terms of care of the pet for any pet owners.

Rating: Summary: This book tells a lot about how to take care of your g-pig Review: I remember taking in Gweeker, a sweet mixed breed silver and white guinea pig who was being aboused by the other guinea pigs in her pen at the pet store. I suddenly realised I didn't know much how to care for her. One of the first books I bought was this one--and I still thumb through it frequently. That was nearly six years ago. The charts and the lists of good and bad foods for guinea pigs are PRICELESS. Also a bonus are clearly described signs of normal guinea pig behavior and abnormal signs, so you can immediately recognise when to take Piggy to the vet. There are some shortcomings--breeds are not clearly identified in the photos, breeds that are new here in the US are obviously not in there. Also, it is known now that red cedar is BAD bedding for guinea pigs--that fact is not mentioned. This is translated from the German (and is more enjoyable and informative a read than most guinea pig books written by native speakers of English). It does have a European viewpoint of taking care of guinea pigs, so take some advice like picking wild plants for Piggy to eat (too dangerous to do in the US) with a grain of salt. Overall, though, I think Gweeker and the rest of the piggies in my life are glad I bought this book.
Rating: Summary: Not a bad reference book, but there are better Review: When my first piggie came to live with me I got one book, Peter Gurney's. However soon after I really wanted to learn as much as I could, so I bought many others, this was one. It is ok, it has really good basic information, but it is not complete. You should really look into other books as well, like The Proper Care of Guinea Pigs, by Peter Gurney. Hope that this helps.
