Rating: Summary: Keep going back for a quick review of techniques Review: I judge a quilting book by how often I refer to it after the initial glow of reading something new. This book I keep close by to refer to the techniques for borders, bindings, hanging sleeves, quick piecing and rotary cutting. Classic Quilts arranges traditional quilt patterns from easy to more difficult. I am a beginning quilter and I particularly liked the Accuracy Test exercise on Page 14 so that I could see how accurate my cutting and sewing was before I began a big project. I discovered that my cutting was a little bit slim and my seams were a little bit wide. The companion book I would recommend for more varied projects and in-depth details is The Quilting Bible by Singer.

Rating: Summary: Quilts Away... Review: I love this quilt book. I have personally made so far 3 quilts from this book. They all have very easy instructions and lots of of templets to trace, great for beginers. I have 2 Four-Patch quilts made and 1 Cedar Tree quilt. Great book to have for a quilter and a fabric lover.

Rating: Summary: Classic quilts in all sizes Review: I own this book and refer to it often. I think its strengths are: thorough instructions for making several classic quilt patterns, good photographs of the finished quilts, and charts outlining yardage and construction of each quilt in several sizes (lap, twin, queen, etc). It isn't the most imaginative book but I think most people would find at least one quilt in it they would like to make.
Rating: Summary: Great book for the fan of traditional quilts Review: I really enjoy this book. A helpful feature the book contains is the measurements of fabric needed for any size of each of the designs, which unfortunately some other quilting books I have seen have overlooked. The designs really appeal to the fan of traditional quilts (me) and the instructions are quite clear. I love to just page through it and pick out which ones I'd like to make. The only thing I would like to see in the book that are in some of Ms. McCloskey's other books are alternate color suggestions for each quilt. One thing that is also confusing is that some important tips are scattered throughout the book - it would be easier to use if they were all in one section. Otherwise, this book gets my highest recommendation!
Rating: Summary: Great ideas and easy instructions Review: I used this book to make the Storm at Sea quilt within as a wedding present for my cousin and his fiancee. It turned out wonderful, beautiful, beyond my expectations. It was my first full-sized quilt ... had made runners, lap quilts, etc before. The instructions and illustrations were easy to follow ... but the quilt definitely was not "quick" ... it took me 8 months of weekends. I know it's because I was relatively new to it, though. (...)
Rating: Summary: Not Exactly Pleased Review: I was totally blown away by this book. As a beginning quilter, I was looking for a book that would inspire me and this book does just that. The designs range from simple to the more complicated but all of which are classic. The author does a great job in detailing the steps to take in putting the quilt together. Plus she has shortcuts on cutting the pieces. The best thing about this book is that she has a picture of the entire finished quilt -- in color -- for each design so you know exactly what it looks like. This books is a keeper!
Rating: Summary: Great, and I'm a beginner! Review: This book has great examples of classic American quilts. I especialy like that the patterns go from simple to more complex piecing so you know what you're getting into! I have never quilted before, and had no problems figuring out how to measure and rotary cut from the instructional section in the beginning. This is a great book to learn quilting as long as you are prepared to supplement it with other sources of info, such as your local quilt shop experts.
