Rating: Summary: Plastic isn't always tacky! Review: I am a novice jewelry collector and recently purchased this book as a reference. The pictures helpful in identifying types of material and the forward on the evolution of plastic jewelry was interesting. The authors describe some types of plastic jewelry found on the market, inluding natural and synthetic material, including how to tell types by touch. They did not include "feel" for all materials and a corresponding example would have been useful. Also, I was looking for more information about bakelite, celluloid and lucite, which are not included in the descriptions as separate types of plastics. They do include photographs of lucite and bakelite items. Further, some of the photographs just refer to items as plastic, which is easy to tell. The difficult part is figuring out which type of plastic the item is! Price guidelines seem inflated, but I have seen some of the items sold for the amounts noted. I have not realized these amounts. Also, there is no index. Overall , I like the book for photo and price reference, but would recommend a new collector purchase more than just this book for guidance.
