Rating: Summary: User-friendly quilting book for beginners and others Review: This book contains some very easy block patterns using squares and rectangles that go together fast to make a completed quilt. But the best part of the book, in my opinion, is the instructions. Ms. Michell obviously still remembers piecing and quilting her first quilt, and is not a perfectionist, which I appreciate. Reading her directions is like having a kind, funny, and forgiving friend teach you how to put a quilt together. She encourages you to make a bed-sized quilt right away, and gives simple pattern and instructions for making a tied Rail Fence quilt that would be a easy first full-sized quilt.I have read a lot of quilting books, and Ms. Michell's instructions for putting together a quilt top, batting, and backing prior to quilting are the best that I've ever read. This book was published in 1988 and the fabric and color choices shown in the illustration are typical of the 80's, but the patterns are so simple that one could easily adapt them for any kind of fabric. Recommended!
