Rating: Summary: You get what you pay for Review: I bought this book sight unseen except for the cover. I guess I was expecting more than what I got. I hoped there would be a bunch of herbs singled out so you could stitch them individually or put them together as a sampler. There IS a pattern called "Conservatory Cushion" that is actually nine boxes with a different herb in each box, but that is about it.I was hoping for more "garden" aspects in herb garden prints, but besides the pillow, the rest of the designs don't interest me. A Bay Leaf topiary, Lavender bags and trinket box, Guest room set (which is just stitching a repetitive floral design on border material and then sewing them on towels), Jar covers and labels (a whopping four designs: Apple & Sage, Apple & Mint, Tarragon and Rosemary), Assisi gift collection which is just a few leaves done in assisi style stitching, and finally For a Golden Table, which shows you how to use gold thread to stitch a basil or nasturtium napkin. Because this book is so thin and does not offer much, I would be more upset. However, this book can be bought for a fairly inexpensive amount. A better name for this booklet would be "Herb trinkets in cross-stitch". If you prefer to make smaller projects, this might be the one for you. But it was not for me.

Rating: Summary: A charming collection of designs Review: Most of Elena Thomas cross stitch designs are suited for beninning skill levels, a bay tree topiary is more challenging. All projects have color photos and charts are black and white. The designs range in size, with 3 Assisi charts (background is stitched) that may be made larger by increasing the stitching area. A lavender design is used for a sachet bag and trinket box, and is suited to be used in many projects. Basic skills are explained and a page of suppliers is provided. The designs are simple, attractive, and inspiring for uses in a variety of handcrafted objects. Colors of embroidery cotton are listed in DMC, Anchor and Madeira threads.
