Summary: A must have for the oceanliner buff!
Review: A wonderful book for collectors and those just wanting to learn more about ocean liner history. Informative and filled with great pictures. Will make you want to book your tickets.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Excellent start for collectors
Review: Ms. Outwater did a very nice survey work on the subject. On top of it it is nicely printed and with very good photos. Just two aspects reduce its importance as a reference book to serious collectors: 1 - Prices, in its majority, are faraway for the reality, considering that it was published in 1998; 2 - It excludes a very important aspect of ocean liner memorabilia: stock certificates of the ocean line companies

Summary: All around look at the wonderful world of Ocean Liners.
Review: Myra and Eric have recreated the glory of Ocean Liner travel by assembling many fantastic artifacts in this book. Although I was born too late to have experienced this great way of travel, I can now imagine what it must have been like. Reading the menus, seeing the china and crystal, or gazing at the elaborate certificates commemorating a voyage makes me realize how much we have sacrificed by replacing the slow luxury of steam ship passage with the fast cost-cutting airplane. This book allows one to begin collecting and reliving an era by providing a benchmark of prices and diversity of collectable memories.

Review: Outwater picked a fascinating subject. Her text is well thought out and the quality of the pictures are superb. Where the author hits a bump is that she had too much from modern liners and not enough from the older liners. Also the guesstimates on the prices of the items were a bit high. As a serious collector I think they were raising the rates on certain items long before their time.
