Rating: Summary: Perfect! Perfect! Perfect! Review: it is the first book i've ever read by frank peretti and i was astounded! it's the most beautiful symbolic analysis of sin that i have encountered and i want all my students in the humanities to experience the same pleasure i had in reading its contents. 'the oath' contains treasures that talk about human integrity, nobility, dignity, and all their opposites, too. i was surprised and disturbed by his imaginative weaving of fact and fiction...and all i can say is: it was what i needed and i got it. thanks, frank peretti!
Rating: Summary: An old towns past still effects the present Review: i loved this book for numerous reasons. the first is that it had a lot of action from the very first page to the last pages. it caught my attention from the begining. second is that he compleats the book really well; he didn't just unanwser a lot of questions; or run out of thoughts and just give it an abrupt ending. and lastly i loved the book because the book had a christian theme in it through out the book in a way that is says "sin can ruin your life".
Rating: Summary: Kept me on my toes always wanting to find out what is next. Review: It was a really good book. I would recommend it to anyone
Rating: Summary: Give it a chance! Review: I've never actually written a review before, but I feel eminently qualified, as I just spent the last hour reading all the other reviews, and I feel I have something worthwhile to add. A college sophomore, it's been a few years since I first began to devour Mr. Peretti's works, as a sixth-grader. I have thoroughly enjoyed each and every one, and often come back to them in my spare time, only to be captivated all over again. I suppose, then, if you're reading this, your question is, is this book for _me_? Having noted other readers' reactions, I have concluded that the answer depends upon your expectations of Peretti's work. If you expect a thorough and quotable theological treatise, no (isn't that responsibility ultimately the Bible's, anyway?). If you expect Austen, Dickens, Shakespeare, or even C.S. Lewis, no. If you expect a simple literary affirmation of every extrabiblical assumption you've formed about Christianity, no. However, if you expect a provocatively unique and symbolic take on the very pertinent issues of sin, forgiveness, and the saving power of Jesus Christ, then I can answer with an unqualified yes. I agree that _The Oath_ is probably not a book for small children, but for those with the time (it's difficult to put down!) and the willingness to try something different, I feel confident that this book will not fail to be a more-than-worthwhile read.
Rating: Summary: Another great book by Frank Peretti Review: This book was not as good as "This Present Darknes" or "Piercing The Darkness", but VERY good. I think the dragon in the story and the town was very symbolic. I think anyone should read this woderful novel written by the greatest author that I have ever known.
Rating: Summary: An Awesome Book Review: The Oath is different from This Present Darkness and Piercing the Darkness but its just as good. I think the way the way evil spreads and eventually overcomes each person who gets the black spot is the perfect metaphor for evil in the world. The Oath is exciting and keeps you interested. This is one of my favorite books.
Rating: Summary: A great metaphor for evil in our time. Review: I highly recommed this book for anyone living in a small, medium or large town or city. This was a real page turner with a great message about the evil that manifests itself in the lives of this small town. If you are thinking about live the universe, god and everything, this will definetely give you some food for thoght. I truely enjoyed every page and have had some great discussion with friends about the concepts that the author presents in a fictional form. Read it now.
Rating: Summary: Amazing! Review: This is a great book! It has just enough of everything people want in a book. The style of writing is awsome! The way it doesn't give a complete description of the dragon let's you imagine what it looks like. Frank Peretti is great!
Rating: Summary: This book was freaky. Review: This book was great, but it was the absolute freakiest book I have ever read. The plot and storyline were excellent, but as I said the book was freaky.
Rating: Summary: I COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN..WHO WAS THIS DRAGON?? Review: I HAVE READ ALL PERETTI'S BOOKS. THIS ONE WAS A BIT DIFFERENT AS I EXPECTED TO SEE THE GREAT ANGELS AGAIN. THE IMAGE OF A DRAGON THREW ME BUT AS THE STORY PROGRESSED I WAS TRANSFIXED ON THE EVIL IN THIS TOWN AND THE GRASP THAT SATAN CAN HAVE ON ANYONE. THE DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAGON AND HOW IT MOVED ABOUT CAUSES ONES IMAGINATION TO CONJUR THEIR OWN VERSION OF WHAT IT ACTUALLY IS. LIKE ALL OF HIS BOOKS THE UNDERLYING THEME OF SATAN'S WARRIORS VERSUS THE HEAVENLY WARRIORS IS TOLD MUCH DIFFERENTLY. MY BIGGEST QUESTION IN REGARDS TO ALL HIS BOOKS IS WHY, IN LIGHT OF THE "CRAP" THAT CREEPS INTO THE THEATRES, THIS BOOK ALONG WITH THE OTHERS HAS NOT BEEN MADE INTO A MOVIE. PERHAPS TOO GRAPHIC ABOUT HOW IT REALLY IS HERE ON EARTH AND IT WOULD CAUSE EVERYONE TO THINK WHAT SIDE THEY REPRESENT. GREAT READING*****!
