Rating: Summary: Great Book! Review: I am a romance fan and found this book to be one of the best. It is a great book for a getaway with no interuptions. Hard to put down once I started it. Great characters! Can hardly wait to read the next one! If you liked this book, then you will also love "Stolen Moments" by Barbara Jeanne Fisher.
Rating: Summary: Outlander Review: Diana Gabaldon is a magnificent writer. She has a talent for combinging so many styles of writing into one story. History, mystery, intrigue, romance, this story has everything. I am usually a snail reader, however, I could not pry myself away from this one. I found myself becoming emotionally involved with the characters.
Rating: Summary: The Best Book I've Ever Read Review: I'm not much of a reader. Prefer reading "How To" books to a book of fiction, but on the advice of a friend I began the 800+ page book. After 50 pages I couldn't put it down I was so captured by the characters of the book and felt like I was there with them. After finishing Outlander I felt starved for more glimpses into the 2 main characters lives. Thank goodness I didn't get hooked on this series until after it was all written! 4 books later and I wish there were 4 more. Definitely read Outlander, but make sure you have the other 3 books in the series ready to move on to at 2am in the morning. :D
Rating: Summary: Not you¿re typical adventure Review: Diana Gabaldon has something special, and everyone who I have talked to, who has read the series agrees - this is great reading! Outlander is the start of what continues to be an addicting legacy. Her vast panoramas of scenery and character take you deep into the story and into the lives of everyone involved. I was a bit skeptical at first when a friend recommended the series to me, not being a romance fan myself, however these books go far beyond that genre. Outlander and the rest of the series are just extraordinary works of fiction. They are intelligent, wonderful story telling. Her attention to the detail of her characters makes the story one the most imaginative works I have read in a while. The heroine is an admirable strong, witty woman and the hero is delightful. Claire and Jamie are a wildly entertaining and endearing team. Once you have started Outlander I am sure you will sail all too quickly through Drums of Autumn. I highly recommend Diana Gabaldon!
Rating: Summary: Romance, Violence and Sex Review: Our heroine is pretty active. With daggers, with her body, even with a gun, she gets the job done. But I must admit that I could not put this book down. I'm not usually a fan of romance, but this book didn't dwell on it to the point of exhaustion. I think I'll look for the sequel...
Rating: Summary: A Good Weekend Read Review: This is what I refer to as a "beach book." Take it to the lake or country and don't stop till you're done. The writing is graphically violent and sexual but, in between the blood and lust, there are vivid images of wood and heather, and castle halls lighted with torches. In spite of myself, I wanted more of the brave, adventurous and somehow innocent James Fraser. Gabaldon spins a good yarn.
Rating: Summary: Best Fiction I have Read in a While Review: I usually do not read much fiction as I can't find anything that thrills me but this book I could not put down. Just finished this one and have ordered the next one immediately. A great book for vacation time where you can completely immerse yourself in the excitement and passion.
Rating: Summary: What Romance! Review: I have read the four books of this growing series. They are so enjoyable, and maybe unlike some people, I am so glad they go on for almost a thousand pages! Diana Gabaldon has a real flare for writing romance, not just sex, for touching the sacred while keeping her characters real. I thought that Claire accepted a little too readily her appearance in Scotland 200 years earlier, but after awhile, I forgot about that and accepted it, too. The Jaime-Claire romance is so wonderful as a fantasy, but it also teaches us that real love is possible. Sometimes, in order to accept fantasy, we have to suspend our desire to want everything to fall neatly into "real" boxes. I can't wait for the next book to come out.
Rating: Summary: This series is ADDICTING!!!!! Review: I loved this book so much, that I immediately went out and bought the rest of the series. If you're considering buying this beek, I reccomend you buy at least one of the books which follow it, you'll want them. I fell completely in love with Jamie and I wanted to be Claire so badly that I didn't want the series to end--I wanted to continue living vicariously through her. This book, and the ones which follow, are a MUST READ if you're a romance novel lover!
Rating: Summary: Exciting, escapist historical fiction Review: Fun to read! Why else would you bother with 800+ pages? The ending, however, is unsatisfying - it begs you to read the second book in the series, which is a disappointing tactic. It leaves a few loose ends. Some of the sex and violence is a little overdone - not offensive, just unnecessarily repetetive and a little tiresome. Even so, Ms. Gabaldon is a marvelous story-teller.
