Rating: Summary: Quite a change of pace for Patterson! Review: This book was beautifully written and a quick read. I did enjoy it; however, I felt that there were some flaws. I felt Suzanne's writings in her diary to Nicholas were way over the top. Everything was so sugary sweet that it seemed almost unrealistic. I was a little irritated because life just isn't like that - sorry. Also, some things she wrote in this diary to her son were intimate and kind of weird to write to your infant son for him to someday read. I was a little disappointed in the ending, but it didn't overshadow the whole story. Overall I did enjoy it and have recommended it to friends.
Rating: Summary: Too Much Sugar Decays A Sweet Story Review: Katie and Matt seem like the perfect couple. Matt, a poet and house painter, and Katie, his editor, are destined for marriage until Matt abruptly walks out. In his retreat, Matt leaves a diary. A ghost from his past, Suzanne, wrote a diary for her infant son, Nicholas. Katie must escape her anguish, read the diary and understand its relevance to her lost lover. In a radical change in direction, author James Patterson leaves behind his best selling murder and mayhem mysteries to create a sweet romantic tale, "Suzanne's Diary For Nicholas." For sure, the basics of the novel are sound. The plot is interesting. There is plenty of intrigue. The story makes an excellent statement about life's priorities. There are enough twists and turns to pull us to a satisfactory ending. The disappointment comes from the main protagonist, Suzanne. Her voice, as written in the diary, is over-the-top when it comes to exaggerated enthusiasm, multiple adjectives and other thoughts that border on goofiness. Granted, this doctor and mother recovered from a near fatal illness. With new priorities, she is delighted with life. However, Suzanne is unable to regulate her joy so the readers feel like they're ingesting the sugar through a fire hose. Also, you are also forced to imagine little Nicholas growing up to read about Mom's most intimate moments, written to him in the diary. "Suzanne's Diary For Nicholas" is a good story with concepts that may help us all. I suggest readers pace themselves by putting the book aside often when the sugar count gets too high. It may prevent some cavities.
Rating: Summary: A different type of James Patterson book Review: I was a little leary of buying this book because it seemed not to be one of Mr. Patterson's "usual" books. There is no unsolved murders in the first chapters. Or even in any of the chapters. But what a wonderful suprise this book turned out to be. A beautiful story with a bit of mystrey combined.
Rating: Summary: WASTE OF TIME!!! Review: I picked up this book from my mother who had raved about this sweet, quick read... WELL!!!! Although it didn't take long to get through this book, it was a COMPLETE waste of my time. The author opens the story as if the main character, Matt, did something terribly unforgivable to his wife, Suzanne. So, throughout the whole story, you wait in anticipation to discover what sort of horrible crime Matt committed and why Katie (Matt's girlfriend and recipient of the diary) questions Matt's character. Basically, the book builds up to NOTHING!! What a LETDOWN!!! I would never, ever recommend this book to anyone and I still can't figure out what my mother liked it... hmmm... it must've been Matt's surreal romantic character.
Rating: Summary: Perfect. Review: The only way to describe this novel was, perfect. I had read it to take a break from the dark novel of Wuthering Heights. My grandmother recommended that I read it when I saw it sitting on her dining room table, and while I did not intend to read it I couldn't put it down after the first few pages. It's really quite a touching novel about love and how it encompasses all the facets of life. I would suggest reading Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas, but remember it's sad and be prepared to cry. I didn't warn you.
Rating: Summary: Sappy Love Story with a Predictable Ending Review: In the opening chapter of Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas, the reader meets Katie. A woman whose boyfriend has just broken up with her and she has no idea why. She finds a package on her doorstep. The package is the diary of her boyfriend's former wife to their son, Nicholas. Do I have to say anymore? From this point in the book I knew the ending to a tee. Although predictable, I did enjoy the story. The diary was a little sappy because everything was just perfect. Perfect life, perfect family, perfect love. If you are a hopeless, sappy romantic I think you will absolutely love this story.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Change of Pace for Patterson Review: Beautifully crafted tale of wonderful characters and the "meaning of life." Some may find this too weepy at story's end, but there were a few surprises and a lesson left for those workaholics to ponder with the "juggling of the balls of life and their meaning." Thoroughly enjoyed this change of theme for Patterson and the range that he has shown to encompass.
Rating: Summary: A story that touched my broken heart! Review: After reading this book I recommended, well begged my best friend to read it, as you can see from her review, (wenmille). I loved it and she hated it. Well, I believe everyone is entitled to their opinion but sometimes I think it just refreshing to sit down with a good tear jerker. After losing my boyfriend I found that I could relate to this story and that it actually gave me hope. I'm not saying that this is one of Patterson's better pieces of work, especially for those who are used to his other books, but why bash him for trying to reach others by touching their hearts, even if they did tend to meet at Caroline and John's wedding.
Rating: Summary: Couldn't put it down!! Review: This book was unbelieveable. I read the whole thing in one day!! The story is remarkable and Patterson's descriptions were great. I couldn't put the book down and was constantly wondering what was going to happen next. A love story told through a diary with a twist! I would recommend this to everyone!
Rating: Summary: beautiful love story that lives on even after you've read it Review: One night I was upset and wanted to read something that would make me forget about my life. I picked up Suzannes Diary For Nicolas and noticed that five hours later, I was completely consumed by the words and characters I was reading. I felt the love Suzanne had for Nicolas and the desire to want to have a wonderful life with her family. I also felt the hurt for katie while she was reading the diary and what she was going through to find the reasons why her love had left. I recommend this book to anyone that understands that love is pure and beautiful and even though life has its tragedies, we will always move on to love again,no matter how hard it seems. Completely satisfying is what Suzannes diary will leave you with. James Patterson has an eye for what love is all about. Good book, can't put it down.
