Rating: Summary: Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas Review: Last night I wasted two hours reading this book. I have to say that it took me to new heights of disappointment. Patterson's books are always favorites of mine but he has gone way outside his ability on this one. It is sappy, corny and trite--to repeat myself. The characters are made of flimsey cardboard and have not one ounce of substance. I am aware that this is supposed to be a "tear jerker" but how can anyone cry for people they don't know? This book reads like a bad first novel written by a love sick preteen. For a writer who has mastered the element of suspense in his past work, he certainly gave it all away on the first page. The only thing that I would like to have from this experience is my money back.
Rating: Summary: Another Patterson Success Review: James Patterson has done what John Grisham failed to do with his "Painted House" book. Patterson has made a successful transition from the master of suspense, to a kindler gentler Patterson in "Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas." It is a touching story from start to finish, and it is another clear example of his fine literary abilities. Great Job! Watch out for Violets are Blue in November. PAtterson fans can't wait!
Rating: Summary: ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL STORIES EVER WRITTEN Review: James Patterson and his Alex Cross novels have captured the attention of readers around the world. His has written some terrific psychological thrillers and a couple of less acclaimed novels, such as "When the Bough Breaks" which might have been best left in the closet. However, James Patterson's fans will not be the least disappointed in his latest masterpiece. It could not be further from the action packed, Alex Cross, crime novels, but it is every bit as worthy of praise and acclaim.Katie Wilkinson, a book editor, has been left by her boyfriend, Matt. Matt, however, gives Katie a diary written by his first wife, Suzanne, for his son Nicholas. As Katie reads through the diary, she is not only compassionately drawn to Suzanne but develops a better understanding of Matt. The story that evolves will capture your heart and will long be remembered after the final page has been read. You will laugh and you will cry. The book is on the same par as "The Bridges of Madison County" and "Message in a Bottle." The readers will be pleasantly surprised at the new creative ability of Patterson in this sure to be best seller. Do not miss this book, it is packed with emotion and the reader is immediately drawn to the strong characters. This is once again, James Patterson at his finest - worthy of a whole universe of stars!
Rating: Summary: A Touching Story of Pure and Innocent Love Review: I an departure of James Patterson usual novels, James Patterson proves that he is not only an extemely talented mystery-thriller author, but also a man, whose deep understanding of women and men and their emotional needs translates to a love story which, I believe, is better than Love Story, or Bridges of Madison County. His wonderful writing makes his charcters and their surroundings come to life for the reader. Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas is very satisfying love story for both women and men.
Rating: Summary: My first Patterson book a real disappointment. Review: Admittedly, I'm not finished with it yet, but I'm very disappointed. The writing is juvenile and the characters are shallow. Patterson doesn't seem to have any insight into real women at all. These characters seem based on stereotypes of sappy, romance novels. Not enough real description. Too much use of generic adjectives like "great," and "real fun." This just tells me he doesn't understand his characters. As a result, neither do I.
Rating: Summary: Sweet, but work on character development Review: Being a big Nick Sparks fan, it was suggested that I read this novel. While I thought the plot was sweet, I was disturbed that all of the characters seemed one of the same. The personality and wit remained constant with each character. I often had to go back and remind myself which character was speaking b/c it was so hard to tell the difference. There were also some timeline questions that lingered after I read the book. Exactly when did he meet and fall in love with the new girl? The beginning of the novel says one things, and the end says another. Nevertheless, I still shed a few tears, and I enjoyed remembering how joyous it is to be a young mom. I liked it, but I'll try one of Patterson's mystery novels next.
Rating: Summary: Who knew Patterson had it in him?!? Review: I actually owned this book for a while before I read it. I am a fan of Patterson's other books that are more murder/mystery and I had my doubts about this one. But one day I decided to read it and I am so glad that I did. I read it in one sitting and I just could not put it down! I think this book is not only a love story between a man and a woman, but also a story of the kind of love a parent can have for their child. I have a young daughter and have been writing her a diary since she was born. I saw many similarities between Suzanne's feelings for her child and my own feelings for my child. This book is a tear jerker! As one reviewer suggested, it probably isn't a good idea to read it while pregnant or if you have a newborn (when emotions are up and down to begin with!) Bravo to Patterson for a well written love story. I look forward to reading others!
Rating: Summary: Couldn't put it down! Review: Excellent and easy read! I read it in a day! Intriguing!
Rating: Summary: I wouldn't recommend this book to a mother Review: From the very beginning of the book I was emotional. About halfway through the book, after blubbering for most of the book, I realized that it was going to get more sad and ended up flipping through the last 50 pages or so. It was very predictable and as a mother of a one year old son, it was very hard for me to read. I was drawn into the book and read most of it quickly but I was hoping for a happy ending and was sadly dissapointed. I would raed another book like this if Patterson wrote it as long as someone could tell me in advance that it was a happier book!
Rating: Summary: Zzzz...wake me up when it's over Review: I will admit that I am not one to read books that smack of sentimental drivel, but this one was forced on me...as a selection of my book discussion group. Never before have I read a more predictable, boring book. Mawkish from the start, this book never captured my interest, not that I would admit it even if it did. If you are a dedicated reader looking for a good book, please do what I couldn't do and pass this one up. Trust me, you're not missing anything you can't recoup from watching the lifetime channel on cable.
