Rating: Summary: Just as strong as the last one! Review: Jared's life has changed very much since he moved into his crazed Aunt Lucinda's Spiderwick manor. He's found a secret room and in this room he's found a book called Arthur Spiderwick's Field Guide to Fantastical World Around you, which tells you all about the world of faeries. He's discovered that his new home is inhibited by a Brownie named Thimbletack, who doesn't seem to like to see Jared with the Feild Guide at all, and there are many amazing creatures that live inside the walls of this house. In the Seeing Stone, something horrible happens. His twin brother Simon has been kidnaped by goblins while he was looking for his missing cat. Now Simon and his older sister Mallory must track down these goblins. Unfortunately human eyes cannot see goblins so how will they possibly find him? The answer is the seeing stone. The seeing stone will give Jared the ability to see faeries. Unfortunately that's just the beginning of their newest adventure.Just like The Field Guide, this book is barely over one hundred pages and filled with many detailed illustrations of our heroes and the magical creatures in action. The first book was a mere introduction to the series but this book actually takes the three into their real adventures. It's not quite as entertaining as the last one, possibly because the story line seems like it should have been expanded a little more, but it's still very entertaining and a fun book. Although it's short and filled with pictures it's not just for kids. Teenage and adult fans who are fans of such books like Artemis Fowl, A Series of Unfortunate Events, and The Thief Lord will really enjoy this. If you've read The Field Guide and enjoyed it like me, read this book. It's very suspenseful and exciting. I can't wait until the third book in the series, Lucinda's Secret hits stores.
Rating: Summary: To read in your free time Review: Mallory, Jared, and Simon are back in the second book from Series, "The Spiderwick Chronicles".
After making peace with the brownie who caused the mischief in the first book, the children encounter more mysterious creatures. After being warned that the Field Guide should not be touched, Simon's new cat becomes missing and one of the children gets kidnapped. They find out that they aren't the only ones who know about the Field Guide. The search then begins for the lost sibling. There are many new encounters with different creatures, including a little Hobgoblin named Hogsqueal. But, can he be trusted?
I don't want to give too much away about this second book. I found it to be a great follow-up to a fantastic beginning. These books don't take long to read, but they are full of great imagination, cleverness, and humor. If you love the world of faeries, and folklore, these books are for you. They flow at a fast pace, and you are waiting for what the next page has to offer you.
I definitely recommend this book , but only after you read the first one!
Rating: Summary: Great book for young Harry Potter fans Review: My 6 yr old son just loved the 1st 2 books and I have to admit, I thoroughly enjoyed them myself. He is really into fantasy and magic. He loves Harry Potter and would really like to read Harry Potter's books but he is just not old enough yet. These books offered him an alternative that is just a full of adventure and fantasy. We read both books in about 1 week and he has been on pins and needles for the last 2 months waiting for book #3! I only wish that the authors could write a bit faster!
Rating: Summary: a realy great book Review: Spiderwick 2 is about Simon, Jared, and Mallory. The book is called the Seeing Stone. The story starts off with Jared getting detention, Simon got a new cat and Mallory is practicing fencing. And Simon's cat goes missing and he's asked Jared to help him look for Tibbs the cat, but Jared ignores Simon and goes to Arthur's library. When he's up in the library he see's Simon looking for Tibbs. While he was looking for the cat, Thimbletack, the house brownie, shows up and says "I see that you kept the book." I said it would bring danger to you and your family. Then Jared ignored Thimbletack and looked out the window and saw Simon and he started to struggle, and then he disappeared. Then Jared ran to get Mallory. She and Jared asked Thimbletack if there was a way to see everything going on. "There is!" said Thimbletack but we have to find it. They rushed to the carriage house to look for the seeing stone. But will they ever find the stone? Will they ever see Simon again? You may never know!!
I realy liked spiderwick 2, because it is a realy good book and I think Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black did a great job with the book. If you like Series of Unfortunate Events then you would realy like THE SPIDERWICK CHONICLES series, Or if you like fantasy books you would realy love these books.
Rating: Summary: The Spider Wick Chronicles: The Seeing Stone Review: the Grace children are so unique I can't help but adore them and also Thimbletack the pranks he plays are great and those goblins can you imagine? That seeing stone was great to imagine BUT I just don't know if I would rub hobgoblin spit in my eyes just to see fairies and what not LOL
Rating: Summary: Still processed cheese, but with a little kick (3.5 stars) Review: The second book of the series tries very hard to grab the reader with its kidnapping plot, but it failed to capture my imagination. Better than the first book in some ways, The Seeing Stone doesn't have to introduce everyone as fully as The Field Guide. The children are somewhat more real and substantial, though their mother is still a flat character. However, I find I cannot really care for the children despite their troubles. This story is no longer appropriate for very young readers; there are disturbing illustrations and depiction of cruelty to animals. This makes the book more exciting then the first, but it falls short of the chart of the Series of Unfortunate Events. Altogether, the book was an interesting read, but still not very engaging. Even with more suspense added into the mixture, it lacks something.
Rating: Summary: Faeries are to be feared Review: The second book of this compelling young reader series has the three main characters getting more and more involved in the faerie world, and things are beginning to heat up!
After ignoring warnings about the impending danger of keeping the Field Guide of book one, and upsetting the house brownie, Thimbletack, the three children begin to learn that faeries are to be feared, particularly when they're all riled up.
A cat mysteriously disappears, followed shortly after by one of the twins, and it's up to the remaining adventurers to rescue the situation. This time they've got a magic monocle which gives the wearer the "sight" (all the better to see you with, my dear), but it's up to them to deal with the fearsome troll, the greedy goblins, the gory griffin and one rascally wicked milky toothed hobgoblin with a major gross out solution for clear vision.
Even if they can rescue their brother and make a safe return trip, they still have their mom and an upset brownie to deal with at home.
Wonderfully presented and beautifully illustrated, this simple book will boost the young reader's imagination, and encourage further reading.
Magically lure your 6 to 10 year olds into the world of fantasy - get them The Spiderwick Chronicles today. (This is my second request to you)

Rating: Summary: So Delightful for Children Review: The second in a series of five and just as charming as the first as the children discover more about their new home, filled with it's amazing discoveries. Sure to delight eager imaginative young minds! I especially like how these books keep the reader moving, rather than using over expression of words, each word grabs the youngster's attention and makes them want more. Quick read.
Rating: Summary: My new favorites Review: The Spiderwick books are the best books I have read in a long time. I love the story of Jared,Simon and Mallory and their adventures. I have been reading them every night before I go to bed & I can't wait for book 5. Even though these books are small I enjoy that they are quick to read, but still have alot of action. I have read all four so far and now my teacher is reading them to our class.
Rating: Summary: Better Than The First Book Review: The Spiderwick Chronicles Book 2 The Seeing Stone, written by Holly Black and illustrated by Tony DiTerlizzi, improves upon the first book and leaves you dying to read the next installment. This time out Jared must save his kidnapped twin brother Simon from the clutches of an evil horde of invisible goblins. With the aid of a magic eye piece called the Seeing Stone, and later a little hobgoblin spit in Jared's eye, Jared is able to see the goblins. He is also able to see the many other fairy denizens who inhabit the woods surrounding his home. I like the way each book thus far has dealt with adolescent feelings of anger and confusion. The faeries of The Spiderwick Chronicles are a manifestation of Jared's own feelings. Holy Black weaves this element into the story without over doing the idea. Tony DiTerlizzi's illustrations once again are awe inspiring; helping to create a genuine sense of mystery and suspense. I only wish the story was longer. I Guess I'll just have to wait for the next book. Preston McClear
