Summary: Moving
Review: This is the moving story of a boy who journeys from his school (where he didn't do so good) to NYC (New York City). All the wile, he talks about how much phonyness there is in the world. I won't give away the end, but it is awesome. VERY CLASSIC BOOK!!!

Summary: This book has no plot.
Review: If you like plot and suspense and all the things that make blockbuster movies great, this is not the book for you. There is a weak plot, but it doesn't go much of anywhere because it's not what's important. What the book is really about, is character, human nature and such. Things like that, while a plot would be nice, they can really get in the way sometimes. That said, if you pay attention, you will likely find the book to be charming, humerous and very interesting. There is a lot here that people can relate to yada yada... Notice that the only bad reviews in here are people who are whining for a suspenseful plot... what the hell do these people do with the rest of the words in a book anyway? No book is 100% plot. Go watch a movie or something ... but not Bringing out the Dead; it has no plot... although I still liked that movie it wasn't nearly as good as this book.

Summary: To all Fantasy Lovers
Review: Okay, so you love fantasy, but can't read it this year because your crumby teacher is making you read some crumby realistic fiction book. Well, don't get to upset. Please don't. I never read anything but fantasy, and liked it, until this. It kills me. It really does. So if you're some lost soul who could use some diversity, you should read this. You really should.

Summary: A pivot for life, and entertainment for an evening.
Review: The funny thing is that first read Catcher in the Rye as a Mormon Missionary in Virginia. Due to an illness I was boxed up in an apartment in a different country, a different world, alone, nineteen, and not quite sure what I was doing. The bottled angst of being surrounded, and unconsciencely annoyed, by so many 'phonies' really escaped through the pains and misadventure of Holden. I found the book a fresh breathe of Honesty. It is amazing in Holden's outlook and now, all these years later after getting the book again, I realize how a resolve to become honestly (legitimately) a catcher in the rye -- that is, a good and caring person -- has guided me.

I enjoyed it then and now I do again. The odd and strange twists and critics of the world make you laugh, and then make you think - for a long time. The book is a great introduction to a new and tough way to realize how someone else worried about zits and sex and life in crazy dog-days of post-pubesence.

The best way to spend Six dollars.

Summary: like this phoney reviewing system means anything..
Review: I hate this kind of thing, I really do. I mean, trying to review this thing when 1249 other people who are smarter than me are phoney and arrogant enough to write some corny review, like it means anything anyway. and all these people identifying with Holden. It kills me. It really does. I mean, who cares? They flash this book title up and tell you there is going to be a catcher...but there isn't a baseball mitt in sight, just some corny story about some illiterate kid with problems. and so what? Don't you hate when someone writes a novel that is timeless, that strikes a chord in the world still in fifty years. it's so corny you could cry, you really could. I think I"m going to give a copy of it to my sister, because you'd like her. and you'll like this book, you really will. even though this review will make no sense if you haven't read the book, you'll probably say it was useful to you. That's the kind of phoney you are

Summary: The Holy Grail of Modern Fiction
Review: Quite simply put, one of the greatest works of literature ever created.

Summary: The Catcher in the Rye
Review: The Catcher in the Rye was an alright novel. It talked about a lot of real issues that face many people in the world. The novel was also very desciptive and sometimes you could get wraped up in it like you were there. Parts of it were heart-warming, like when he talks about his brothers and sister. Also when he talks about his dead brother you could tell he was a really sensitive guy. However, the novel did have a lot of cursing and most of it was about women, drinking and smokingand so on. All Holden, the main character who told the story in first person, talked about was being depressed and hating even the smallest things. It was kind of ridiculus of how many stupid things made him feel depressed and it got old after a while. If you read the book for long periods of time it could even make you depressed. He also acted very craze(mentaly) and most of his decisions were extremly childish and you would say to yourself why would a 16-17 year old do that. Besides that the book had to do with a lot of real-life problems and it could even give a little tug at you heart and that is why I gave it a rating of three stars.

Summary: this book killed me
Review: I just read this book. As hero of the book Holden Caulfield says, this book killed me. I mean I liked it a lot. I remebered my own teenage years, similar blues. "Phony" people, as Holden says, and a hat like him to protect myself, and all this problems that one faces when s/he grows up. When you first start to read this book it gets you immediately, you like every page of it, every sentence. It is true that writer is not like Dostoyevsky. But in a sense he is like Dosto. Compared to Dosto, the book never becomes boring, it is a short novel, rather in my opinion it is a long story.

Summary: Timeless Tale of Teenage Angst
Review: Holden Caufield has easily become a name familiar to most teens experiencing trouble on their quest to adulthood. J.D. Salinger represents the pain, struggle, and confusion of being sixteen through the eyes of Holden, an expelled prep school student. The book takes place during the course of the days immediately following Holden's expulsion through his last minutes with his "phonie" roommate and his journey through New York City. He struggles with being able to define himself to his parents and to himself. In Holden's search for truth his own physical and mental state become endangered. Holden stays in different locations in the city and wants to just return home; however, feels that he has lost his chance at being a dutieful son. In visits back to his favorite childhood spots, Holden confronts his coming of age and realizes that its just not the same anymore. He spends great time focusing on his sister and appreciates her for her childlike innocence and kind-nature. Salinger brilliantly captures the mind and voice of a misunderstood teen through the use of informal, almost conversational speech. Inside every person, there was once a lost teen exploring the world as they know it and reaching out beyond the grasps of the familiar and the expected.

Summary: This book is insane!
Review: Okay. This book is crazy. It's weird and funny, but not really. I guess it gives you perspective. You should read it just for that. It's just very, very odd.
