Rating: Summary: Re: The Bar Sinister Review: I thought this book was a sequel to the Bar Sinister when I purchased it. It is actually the Bar Sinister with a new title. I am glad to have a copy of it with better editing. However, I am not sure I would a purchased it had I known. I basically now have 2 copies of the same book...Just thought I should let you all know in case you misunderstood as I did...I do however look forward to the sequel which is apparently in the works.....
Rating: Summary: Same book as Bar Sinister Review: I was excited to get a new sequel to Pride and Prejudice, however, was totally disappointed it was just a retitle of Linda Berdoll's "Bar Sinister". I would not have bought it had I know that bit of information.I loved the "Bar Sinister" except for the terrible editing! There were so many grammatical and simple errors in that book that it was painful to read. The only way I got through it was to remind myself that the Editor must not have read the book, otherwise would have corrected it. "Mr. Darcy Takes a Wife" is with a new editor, so hopefully those errors have been corrected. If so then it would be one of my favorite books! This is not Jane Austen writing, so get over that it is not the same Darcy as before. Just enjoy the story, which has everything. It is definately a "Romance book" but wonderful to see a husband and wife so much in love. The characters and stories are so entertaining that I couldn't put the book down. Even two years after reading it, the story keeps popping up in my mind. Most books I forget about in a month or two, but this one really captured my immagination. I have read all the Pride and Prejudice sequels, and this one is the best, richest, and fullest story line there is. All the previous characters are in this sequel and each is shown in greater detail (albeit not the Austen way). Each is given their own story that intertwines with the main story of the Darcy's. There are some risque parts, so if you aren't a romance book fan, be warned. However, this book is very mild when compaired to today's romance novels. If you haven't read the Bar Sinister already, you will definately like this sequel. If you have, then skip it. It is the same. I would give this book 5 stars except it isn't a new book, so therefore only deserves 4 stars.

Rating: Summary: BEWARE! Review: I, too, looked forward to this book. I had read The Bar Sinister and simply loved it so I thought "Aha! Linda Berdoll has written another sequel!" Beware! It's the SAME BOOK. Is this legal? Can a writer simply change the title and sell it again? There were no reviews out to warn me. Now you have plenty. If you have not read the Bar Sinister then buy this one. The title and the cover are more intriging, the story is great. I loved the look into the marraige of the Darcy's. Quite passionate as I envisioned them. Also, it explains more why Old Mr. Darcy was so good to the evil-Wickham.

Rating: Summary: A great fun read for Elizabeth Bennet fans Review: If you are an Austen fan, yet not obsessive about it, you'll love this book! I found it true to the spirit of Elizabeth Bennet even with the addition of 21st century sex. Maybe especially with the sex! Anyone who thinks that 1)Jane Austen's heroines were bloodless virgins or 2)good sex wasn't really a factor in the lives of 19th century women and 3)therefore this book is a travesty just needs to get a life!! There is a lot of fun here, and a lot of depth. The book isn't a quick read -- although once I got started I couldn't put it down. It has a complex story, a number of side characters (some new, some developed from Pride & Prejudice) plot threads that become entangled and finally resolved, and language that, whether you like it or not, reflects the time period. I found myself loving the Elizabeth that emerges here as much as I did the original.
Rating: Summary: Mr Darcy Takes a Wife Review: If you are looking for a P&P sequel, save your money and do not buy this book. Pride and Prejudice is my favorite book and I love reading sequels to it. I bought the book when it was titled The Bar Sinister and was very disappointed. Ms Berdoll doesn't remain true to Jane Austen's characters, writing style, or the era in which they lived and the sex in the book is unbelievable. It reads much more like a modern day romance novel and Jane Austen would be horrified. It could be a very good beach read (if you are looking for something trashy) but it doesn't begin to do justice to Pride and Prejudice.
Rating: Summary: Where Jane Austen never dared to go Review: In Mr. Dacry Takes a Wife, I expected a faithful following to P&P, with the usual vagueness about intimate details of married life. I was presently surprised to find that Linda Berdoll finally broke through all the euphanisms that are so present in all of Austen's novels. It moved the story along in a way that satisfies the Austen purists, yet gives me all the juiciness that I craved with Pride and Prejudice. I'll admit that some things (the besoiled wedding sheet hanging openly at the local pub) were a little racy, and probably had Austen lurching in her grave, but in the end I found that the only thing I found wrong with the story of Mr. and Mrs. Darcy's first few years of married life was that it ended. Bring on the Sequel!
Rating: Summary: A Far Cry from the Original Review: Let me first just say that like most of these reviewers, I am a true Jane Austen lover. So naturally, I was eager to find a sequel to my favorite of her books, Pride and Prejudice. If what you are looking for is a clone of the original, then look elsewhere. Though a formidable attempt at Austen's era of writing, Mr. Darcy Takes a Wife is palpably seen as written by a modern writer. The intimate scenes are downright raunchy, and it wouldn't be an exageration to call the book a trashy romance novel disguised in Jane Austen's toungue. The melodrama rivals that of a daytime soap, aptly equipt with beautiful people and tears galore. Our favorite of Austen's protagonists, lovely Elizabeth, loses much of her wit and admirable strong will. Mr. Collins lacks his famed infatuation with Lady Catherine De Bourgh. Characters are kicked around in the mud, and Austen's light-hearted, witty perspective on high society is utterly demolished. That said, I still didn't think that it wasn't worth the read. If what you seek is a deliciously written novel that will virtually read itself, then look no further. Lydia and Wickham prove to be amply colorful characters. Mr. Darcy is more a stud than ever before (as partially conveyed with his virility time and time again) and it is not difficult to feel yourself lost in the fantasy of Pemberly like lucky Lizzy Bennet. All loose ends are tied, and many characters are broadened. The story brings a delightfully (though somewhat predictable) happy ending with a few curve balls. However, harsh critics beware: this is no pulizter prize winner.
Rating: Summary: Obviously not Austen, but not trying to be! Review: Many reviews state how "untrue" to the Austen story this is. It may not be Austen-esque in story, but it isn't trying to be. The author states in her forward that she is taking the story in a direction where Jane Austen could not go due to her unmarried 19th century status. This is what may have happened. And it is only a sex-filled romp if you ignore the tantalizing plot twists and reversals. Not the best book I've ever read, but not the waste of hours others would have you believe. If you don't get caught up in the slightly wordy and ostentatious writing, it is a few hours of simple enjoyment. It is not meant to be anything else.
