Rating: Summary: adam Review: I had to read this book for a school assignment.I thought it was an ok book. I do not know what it was like in the 1930's so I do not know how well he recreated that era. I know that then most people were not that really schooled, so they had bad grammer so that part of it was right. I think that Steinbeck really did a good job creating the characters.I think he got deep when he was creating the book. I think that he took along time to think of the character. The reason why I think that This book is a good Book for yound adults is because it teaches the types of discrimination there is in the world. The types of social issues it has in it are raceism, and discrimination on the handicapt.
Rating: Summary: Of Mice and Men Review: In the book Of Mice and Men i thought he did a real good job about explaing the time period then. I could tell because a lot of people were praticly going around the workd looking for a job on a ranch. And when they did not have any cars back then, they had horses. Most of all, I liked how Steinbeck created his characters, how they were all different from each other. I think this could be a believable story, he made the characters have a converstation with someone you would normalie have. He described the characters really well, how there personality was, how the react to things, and what they want to become. I think this book would be good for young adults to read because you could learn a little more about friendship in this book. You could see how lucky we are that we have new creations. I think one of the lessons you learn in this book is friendship. You need to know how much a friend means to you. One of the Social Issues comes in place is racism, they use a lot of words that isn't really nice, and it could hurt someones feelings. THANX AMY ST
Rating: Summary: Mice or Men Review: I had this book to read for a project in school. and i think it is a good book which teaches alot to young adults. it teaches so much
Rating: Summary: Jarred Review: Before i read this book my teacher told me that this book was on the great depression. Steinbeck described how hard it was to work then and find money, but if anyone picked up this book and read it. they would think it had nothing to do with the great depression. I thought that the charicters were so realistic. I say that because the relationship between george and lennie was so strong. It is a good book to read because it tells a story of the two boys trying to find work.
Rating: Summary: Great Book Review: Sig S. Of Mice and Men was the first novel that I have ever read. I think that Steinbeck did a great job with the setting of the book. I could tell that the novel took place in the 1930's and that it was during the Great Depression. I think that the characters were developed very well. Steinbeck really did a great job with the descriptions of the characters and their dialect. He did an awesome job with the conversations between the characters as well. They seemed to describe themselves without him having to go into great detail. I think that this book is a good book for young adults to read because it teaches a lot of lessons. It teaches the reader that it is always good to have a friend with you, it is important to be careful with whatever your doing, and it teaches you to never give up on your dreams. This book has a lot of racism, discrimination, and has a lot of words that would not be suitable for younger kids.
Rating: Summary: Michael Review: Steinback showed the way of life for many Americnas at that time. To find work at all was hard. The work was harder. He gave me a feel for what they were going through. Steinbeck's charters are easy to believe and had you wanting them to accoplish their dream. Charaters use wouds from back then like sulleny and snooker and shows how some people were treated different. Rasism was much worse back then. One of the African American characters is treated much worse than he would be today. This novel isn't action filled. Instead it has great ideas and for certain readers this could easily become one of their favorite books. I enjoyed it and it had a strong ending. The main character has to make a desision whether his best freind should live or die. I think 8th grade and up could enjoy this book. It shows how bad racim was back them.
Rating: Summary: Of Mice and Men Review: I think this book is great, and I would reccamend this book for anyone who likes to read. I think Steinbeck recreated the California migrant worker conditions very well. He explains the living conditions really well and about the bunkers and were they live. He also gives little hints taht they are very isolated and away from people. Some other reasons you notice is he puts slang when they talk and what they talk about. Back in th day when there was a lot of segregation they talk racist. Steinbeck really made characters in this book really noticable, and he also describes them really well. He tells most of there names, what there job is on the ranch. He basically tells what kind of person they are. The charcters are really beleivable because of how they act. It seems so true because you think , that is how you could be when you are not exposed to alot of people and how they just could not care about things. I would thinnk this book is great to teach my age kids. It may teach them a certain kind of lesson and make them think. I also think it would teach them to be mature and serious about the kinds of thing they talk about. This book also talks about some social issues such as racism, assisted suicide, and animal rights . I think these issues would also teach the young readers about how different life used to be in the past then and how much it changed. LORI
Rating: Summary: Of Mice and Men a review by Maia Review: Steinbeck's recreation of the state of migrant workers of the nineteen thirtys and the social issues surrounding such men, is a must read for young adults. Is this book to harsh for young adult readers? It's racism may be offensive to many and the extreemly beleivable caracters may be repulsive, but as people in the world today are we not going to run into racism and repulsive attitudes? The lessons this book teaches about human nature and characters such as Lennie, are much like people and situations we may someday have to deal with. This book may give us some insite for how to deal with these things it is truely worth the time and energy to read this powerful book!
Rating: Summary: Of Mice and Men Review: I've read Of Mice and Men and really enjoyed it. Everyone should experience this book at least once in their life. I think Steinbeck recreated the life of two CA migrant workers well. The way he describes the scenes makes me paint a picture in my mind. The words and slang he writes in the character's dialog is the way people talked then so that's appropriate. The characters in the book are so lifelike. I feel like I know them. Each character has his or her own story and personality. This makes them very believable. Also the way they talk is how real people would talk back then. This book is great for young readers. I think everyone should get a chance to read it. In the book it teaches lessons like honesty. A big lesson in this book is the value of friendship. It also speaks of many social issues. Some of them are: racism, assisted suicide, and animal rights. This is a wonderful book.....so read it!!! Thanks For Listening, Hayley
Rating: Summary: Cody, part 1 Review: I did not like this book. On a scale of 1 to 5, I'd give it a 2. The only good part was the end.
