Summary: tip on the title
Review: An interesting thing about the title is that it was taken from a poem by Robert Burns: "To a Mouse". I would strongly recommend reading the poem since it sheds light on the novel. It is very much in keeping with the naturalistic philosophy behind OF MICE AND MEN. (If you are a teacher and are teaching the novel, you might find it interesting to make the students predict, on the basis of the poem, what the outcome of the novel will be.) By the way, some critics say that OF MICE AND MEN is not a naturalistic novel, since George exercises his free will in his final decision. An interesting point to discuss, isn't it?

Summary: tragic tale of society's inability to protect the vulnerable
Review: Steinbeck spins a tragic tale of friendship between a nomadic working stiff and his dim witted friend, a legacy from his dying aunt. The story plays itself out in a depression era farm where the dim wit with his infantile obsession with touching soft things inadventently ends up murdering the attention starved farm owner's daughter-in-law. His friend is forced to undergo the most challenging tests of his friendship - to put a bullet to his dim witted friend to protect him from lynching .

Summary: You'll also love the video
Review: The video "Of Mice and Men" starring Gary Sinise is wonderful. (It's fairly recent - early 90's maybe). My teenage son absolutely loves it! The actor protraying Lennie is also superb. (Sorry I don't know who it is)

Summary: You'll love this book no matter what.
Review: This book is for the one's who don't have time to read or know what style of writing they like. "Of Mice and Men" is a book that almost anyone can read in a day. You'll silently pray for the outcome that seems so close, yet so far away; you'll rejoice for Lennie putting a stop to the beating by the man with a "glove fulla vasaline;" and you'll shudder at the shocking conclusion that you should have expected throughout the whole novel but don't. If you like tragedy, comedy, suspense, or irony, you won't be able to put "Of Mice and Men" down

Summary: This book is an explosion of emotion, a story to remember.
Review: This book illustrates the friendship between two friends and the mountains they have to climb together. Lennie and George bring the story to life. I felt like I was in the book, so griping. I'm glad it was on my school reading list. This book will always be a classic. By Fletcher Falls 17 years old

Summary: Of Mice and Men: the best book I have ever read.
Review: Of Mice and Men is a novel by John Steinbeck that is very popular among people who have read it. It is about two men who need work. Lennie, it seems to me, is mentally retarded. He acts like a young kid and is as smart as a young kid, but for some reason, he is as strong as a bear. George, his friend, is a smart man and a tough man, and even though he sometimes seems to hate Lennie, he would never forget about him. He likes Lennie enough to take him around with him to try to find work. Lennie isn't very smart so they get into trouble and have been kicked out of some towns. They finally get work in a ranch, but a the ranch's owner's son, named Curley, is a shrewd man who wants to fight anyone, even though he is very short. He gets in a fight with Lennie and Lennie is so strong he crushes his hand. Curley then wants to kill Lennie and so some people go after Lennie with guns. I won't tell you what happens after that. I liked this book a lot because it wasn't such a happy book. It had a lot of truth in it. It is my favorite book. Now, I'm only 13 years old, so maybe I haven't read that much, but I think it is one of the only truly American classics.

Summary: I'm speechless! Best book a school could recommend.
Review: Of Mice and Men was required reading in my senior year of high school. I'm now more then 20 years out of school, and have yet to read a book more satisfying. I was so touched by Of Mice and Men. The men were so bonded in life. It makes the ending shocking, but understood. A grown strong masculine man, with any feeling would get emotional reading, Of Mice and Men. Totally captivating. Valerie George (gardner@twd.net)

Review: I don't see the reason for the ending, but the plot and the setting were pretty good

Summary: A book on loyalty and love that we can all learn from.
Review: A book of two men that travel around together and stay together even when time s get tough and they get in trouble. We can all learn from George's patience and love towards Lennie the slow but lovable character. A heart-wrenching tail of love trust and loyalty
