Summary: My Favorite, Yes, _FAVORITE_ Novel Of All Time
Review: I read _Lolita_ for the first time when I was the same age as Lolita herself and being a girl too, I identified with the story Nabokov told in a way that frightened me in a wonderful way. Never before and never since has a novel pervaded me so completely and showed me another way of looking at myself and the world. Those who rate this novel as "over-hyped" and "disgustingly lascivious" have not truly entered the world of Nabakov that is so well known to his loyal readers. Once you finish _Lolita_, read _Ada_ and then start your way down the lengthy list of other novels he's written. You won't be disappointed - Nabakov makes the reader taste the words and live between the pages.

Summary: The genius Nabokov isn't famous--only Lolita is.
Review: Everyone I have asked about Lolita opines that is is a dirty book. They haven't read it. Nabokov wrote nine novels in his native Russian and 15 in English, his fourth language. Lolita, the novel, is a metalogue for Nabokov's love of English--a language which he is able to manipulate with great prowess not unlike the way Humbert manipulates the nymphet in this great novel. Nabokov's allusions and puns concerning the literature of Poe, Shakespeare, and Joyce (to name a few)offer a college education on every page. If this is a dirty book, then we should all be pornographers.

Summary: A lovely book, that you'll never forget...
Review: This is definitely one of a kind. Russian-born Vladimir Nabokov has such a wonderful way of writing, that even those not interested in serious literature, will find it superb... Everything, from the first to the last page is perfect. Not a word is out of place in the whole book. If you haven't read it yet, I highly recommend you to read it... Don't mind the reviews that do not give it 5 stars, for it has probably been written by someone who could not understand the essence of the story, and all its hidden treasures... No doubt, it's 5 stars!!

Summary: Those who read this book for the hype have missed the point.
Review: Honestly, this story is about love. Now granted it perhaps does not fit with the traditional American conception of love, and in many ways Humbert Humbert is a very sick man. However, those that pick up Lolita because of its media hype are those that are disappointed when the story does not live up to its risque image. They have missed the point. They read for action, for excitement. They seek a climax in every chapter.

What they miss is the construction of the portrait of a character that reveals detail that the most expensive camera will always fail to see. I urge anyone in this position to reread the very last page if my position is still not clear.

Lolita is a story worth reading. Dare I say a must read for anyone who truly enjoys literature.

Summary: Too much hype, too little substance!
Review: Other than the controversial subject matter, I do not understand the hype surrounding the work and did not find this "novel" to be extraordinary. The story promised an interesting reading at the outset, but turned into a soporific mind-numbing experience shortly after Humbert and Lolita embark on their road trip.

I must vehemently protest the #2 slot Lolita occupies on the Modern Library's list.

Summary: "LOLITA" is the best book I have ever read!!!
Review: This is the one. If you are a literature buff and are looking for a terrific book, here it is. Out of all the classic literature books I've read, "Lolita" is the only one that I have thoroughly enjoyed. Nabokav's language is like poetry, making this one of the most beautiful love stories of our time. If you are a literature buff or a Nabokav freak, check this out.

Summary: Irons ideal Humbert Humbert
Review: The best 10 minutes of my day for weeks now has been my short drive to work, listening to Jeremy Irons reading LOLITA. Who could better embody the many conflicting qualities and vast confusion of Humbert Humbert - the perverted, wistful, sad, elegant, hilarious, wicked, pathetic and language-loving narrator of Lolita, Nabokov's most mind-boggling book? The book feels perfect when it's read aloud by such an actor, who gets every ounce of meaning AND music out of the prose. Such an ugly subject, such a gorgeous piece of literature, such a sensual experience to listen and dream. One of the few audiobooks I look forward to hearing again, as good in isolated chunks as in an 11-hour binge.

Summary: Jeremy Irons' narration is tremendous
Review: Jeremy Irons reading the unabridged version of "Lolita" is the single finest piece of acting I've come across. We know the book is a classic, but in my estimation, it's made even better through the voice and interpretation of Mr. Irons.

Summary: Are we some men an Humbert Humbert?
Review: I conside that at least once in the life a man can to feel a love like Humbert Humbert. Don`t horrorize of my comment! I`m not justifing that class of love, but I can understand it. Everybody have the right of falling in love of somebody. Can you imagine a woman saying: "I`m fall in love of my plants"? Or a man saying: "I`m fall in love of my female-dog"? I hope you understand what I saying. Following a comment that I made of another book, I wrote a book that relates the story of a young man that fall in love of his cousin of nine, but this man isn`t a perverted. Like a comment of Nabokov at end of his book, my book response to an "stetic pleasure" for write, and no more. A thinking what I had for very years. Finnaly, I have to say that the Nabokov`s book it`s a great example of all those things that we have very near of us and we wan't to see, specially LOVE, the beautiest feeling that we have but we don`t know neither explain nor understand. (If in Amazon.com are interested for my book, that isn`t published yet, please send message to Jimbolivar_@latinmail.com, in spanish version). The people wan`t give to this book the "five stars", but I give it, because the courage of Nabokov deserves it.

Summary: a novel of depth and incredible beauty
Review: Lolita is neither a moral tale nor perversion made acceptable; it is an experience of temptation, of being drawn into the mind of an incredibly intelligent, beautifully spoken man who understands at every moment what is happening...of understanding his appeal, of understanding Lolita's appeal (and they are both extremely alluring)...of being drawn into the picture which Humbert creates and then seeing beyond it into the corruption. Understanding what is happening requires thought because the horror of it is buried so far beneath the surface of Humbert's story; enjoying the language is extremely pleasurable. Lolita is in no way black-and-white; and it can be enjoyed on many levels. I love Lolita; it's one of the best books I have ever read. If you agree, try Ada next!
