Summary: The violence is thematic, not gratuitous
Review: A delicately brutal investigation into an abnormal mind, this book
was surprisingly easy to read. There was a grotesque poetry in the
character. Another book you might enjoy if you are intrigued by
abnormal psychology (and one that, although it was completely
different in style, is thought-provokingly similar in subject matter)
is the noir classic _The Killer Inside Me_, by Jim Thompson

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Scent-sational fiction from Patrick Suskind.

Review: A murder spree in 18th Century France puts
die-hard mystery fans on the fragrant path of a
killer in PERFUME, from international
bestselling author, Patrick Suskind.

A thrilling page-turner, PERFUME offers a
breathless, and quasi-historical account of Paris
in the 1700s. The novel insists that readers
stop and smell the roses as one of France's
leading purveyors of perfume noses around the
countryside. Suddenly, as young French
virgins start falling prey to the worst of
predators, our scent-ual prodigy, with his uncanny
ability sniff out success from afar, always
seems near the serial killer. What his quest
for the perfect perfume recipe eventually
reveals is a secret ingredient, the true
scent of a woman.

Get a chilling whiff of PERFUME and inhale a
masterpiece.

Summary: Suskind's created a monster
Review: Perfume is highly engrossing I was expecting a predictable ending and was completely thrown by the conclusion. Suskind has created a very real world in which scent is parallel to love

Summary: Breathtaking book about a scary creature of outrages talents
Review: I've read the book twice (german + english) and both times I couldn't put it away. I dove into the world of a genious, who is incapable to handle the realistic and average world. With his eyes you discover a new dimension. The dimension of scents - a world of smells. How different everything looks from here, other rules, another way of setting priorities. Pitty, disgust and sympathy are always with you and you seem to be glued to the book....

Summary: Extraordinary
Review: This may be the best book written in the 20th century! This is a great book

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: An excellent romantic story. The best book I've ever read.
Review: Best book I've ever read, and I'll continue to search for it until I own it

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Everything around me became more vivid
Review: I did not realize the realm I was stepping into. I just could not step out of it till the end, and still the smell of the story will linger with me forever. You just have to stick your nose in this book.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A Redefinition of the Senses
Review: I had the fortune to read this book in its original language, German. Never before have I come across a work so fresh, almost arrogant at times, in which an extremely witty author manages to deliver such a powerful, yet so simple storyline. Art is defined by its true simplicity, and Suskind captures the reader so well. In a world that is systematically being deprived of its basic senses, you will find Suskind's work compelling, motivating, enchanting. You will actually find pleasure in forcing your nose to smell, again

Summary: I've read it 6 times and I still love it....
Review: Born in a century of stench, an unusual child with the gift to define scents grows up to be the greatest collector of these prizes. At all costs, his main goal is to prefect a perfume that will make the world fall to feet, even if the secret ingredient can only be found in his victims..... It's a well detailed novel, with a enough gore and twisted scenes to keep my friends and I (all of us are in high school) talking about it for weeks, and we all loved the ending which DID NOT come to a disappointing end, I might add.
