Rating: Summary: Grab the Kleenexes. This one pulls at your heartstrings Review: Jodi Picoult captures in this one book so many different emotions that young mothers are never warned about. The exhaustion, the futility, the loss of identity, the self-doubt, and most of all the desperation. Paige's drive to the grocery store leaving behind a trail of her husband's laundry is seered in my memory. How many times during my early years of motherhood would I have loved to have driven off and never looked back. Inlaws that don't approve of you, mothers who never showed you how to love, fathers whose expectations you couldn't meet, and husbands who live for their careers and are no longer attracted to your post-partum, frazzled self. Why wouldn't you run away! This book did, thankfully, show there is light at the end of the tunnel. All of the characters seemed to find that sometimes it is when we "run away" that we realize how much we need the things we are running from. I cried through the last 100 pages of this book. What a wonderful story.
Rating: Summary: Mother & Self Review: Jodi Picoult created a novel so rich and so true. She has magically woven a story of sorrow, happiness, and the search for our own truths.'Harvesting the Heart' focuses on the life of Paige and her new marriage to Nicholas. Paige becomes a mother and soon memories of her own mother and an unspeakable past have her doubting herself and her ability to parent her child. Jodi captures the feelings of most new mothers. She details the feelings of being overwhelmed and emotionally spent. Sleepless nights and showerless days are what fills Paige's life. Slowly, Paige is reaching her breaking point. When Paige breaks and can no longer endure, she sets out on a journey to find herself and reawaken her true passions. This is a life changing event for all. Through this journey, Paige is able to rekindle and revisit relationships and reconcile her past. This early novel of Picoult's is definately one of her best. I would highly recommended it.
Rating: Summary: My New Favorite Author Review: Jodi Picoult has quickly become my new favorite author. I really enjoyed Harvesting the Heart. The characters really come to life. Most of the novel is very real and touching. A few parts made me laugh out loud. Whenever I need a laugh, I think about Paige and the "shirt" scene. Jodi Picoult is a wonderful storyteller. Each novel is truly unique. Harvesting the Heart is one of the best.
Rating: Summary: Art, Science and Human Condition Review: Miss Picoult developes a story that integrates art, science and genuine human condition. The narrator/main character grows from an eighteen year old run-a-way to a successful artist all while living her life to support her husband. The tale is unique and delves into the Catholic beliefs of a young Catholic girl without a mother. To rediscover herself, she must rediscover her mother. A good read with details a plenty.
Rating: Summary: Cozy book for a cold winter's day to warm your heart. Review: Moving story about people who change for the better. Paige, finds herself pregnant young, has an abortion and leaves home. Story evolves as Paige makes a life for herself and grows up. Her husband, Nicholas, is a cardiologist and top in his field. The title has many meanings and the reader's heart is brought in on many levels. Enjoyable book that pulls you in and tugs at your emotions. An overall wonderful reading experience ~ leaves you with a good feeling.
Rating: Summary: I thought the book was heart-felt and wonderful. Review: The book was the longest book I've ever read, but it was well worth it. A trait that makes it unique is that it shows two points of view as you read through the book you see how two different character see and react to things. This book will not let you down in any way. I think it is my best purchase!
Rating: Summary: A Must for Women and Men Thinking of Having a Baby Review: The Pact by Jodi Picoult was one of my all time favorite books. I try to read everything I can by Picoult, but never expected to find another The Pact, I mean how often do favorite books come along. With one of her older novels, however, one I am not sure how I missed before, Picoult has done it again! Harvesting the Heart is another favorite!!!! Harvesting the Heart is one of the most touching books I have ever read. It is a must read for anyone with a baby or anyone thinking of having a baby. And wives - make your husbands read this book. One of the themes of this book (and there are many) that really hits home for me is the love that a mother and father can have for a baby. This twist is how scary it is to have a baby for first time parents. How first time parents doubt their abilities to parent, how they are surprised by their lack of freedom, how different the roles are for husbands and wives, and how a baby changes the relationship between a husband and a wife. Telling you any more about the story would give too much away. Just take my advise and read this book!!!!
Rating: Summary: Captivating, enthralling and poignant Review: This book was by far the one of the most gripping pieces of literature I have encountered. I read The Pact first and then read Harvesting the Heart and I feel this book was more profound and full realism. The mother/child bond is so strong that Paige needed to find her own mother so she could mother her son. The idea that Nicholas' mother saw through Paige leaving as not just abandonment, but understood Paige's deep need to find herself, her mother and fill the void in her life was so profound and powerful.
Rating: Summary: WOW Review: This book was possibly Picoult's best. It was one that left you wondering what if? The ending left many unanswered questions, and I wanted to turn pages that weren't there. This book is the story of finding oneself. It is a story of love and heartbreak. It is a story that you will not soon forget.
Rating: Summary: My favorite book! Review: This is a book that I read a few years back and have since loaned my copy out so much it looks like a well traveled piece of luggage. It captured my imagination as well as my senses. As much as the story was engrossing(I could not put it down) it was the writing that kept me wanting to turn the next page. The best way I can discribe it was that I could visualize the story as I was reading it. Many times you wonder what the character looks like or what that must feel like or sound like, but I didn't with this story and that was very exciting!
