Rating: Summary: Have you noticed how many of these books have been sold? Review: Lots of them!!! Just take a look at customer reviews, they are all very recent, why? because this book is a classic! there are two kinds of people in this world, those who love the book and those who like it but won't admit it. Many are listed here below..I must accept that I saw the movie first, and I liked it very much so then I read the book which complemented certain things that are not portrayed nor explained in the movie.
Rating: Summary: love like you never did it before. Review: This is the greatest love on earth and it makes me think and believe that love is really forever. I never believe that before. It makes me think that true love might just come only once in our lives and you just have to take it..
Rating: Summary: yuck, ick, poo, ugh, blech Review: I read this book cover to cover in a few hours. I absolutely could not put it down-- I couldn't stop the tears running down my face. I was laughing THAT hard. This goes back three or four years and I STILL am haunted by just how abysmaly, unforgivably---the adjectives just don't exist--horrendous this book was. For years it's driven me crazy hearing people go on about it. Good god --WHAT are they talking about? Have they lost their minds completely? The whole book was just one big fat cliche-ridden valentine of a book from Robert James Waller -- to Robert James Waller. Has anyone ever counted just how many times Robert Kincaid (clearly RJW's alter ego) was described as a "panther" or a "tiger" or the "last of a dying breed of men"?? Callling this a love story seems curiously inappropriate. RJW is so enamoured of his alter ego, the character of Francesca is a mere afterthought, window dressing necessary only to reflect the greatness! ! , the manliness that is Robert Kincaid. Even when they are sleeping together for the first time, RJR doesn't even have the decency to aknowledge the fact that there are TWO peoplein the bed. No, the two of them are much too busy talking about what a real man, what an adventurer Robert is and how many exotic babes he's bagged during his many adventures. Thank you Amazon, for providing this forum and reality check. After years of suffering through the hype and the hysteria, reading all these scathing reviews has been like slipping into a warm bubble bath. Glad to know I'm not alone in a universe gone mad.
Rating: Summary: Growing, riveting delivery of Bridges, by its author. Review: The taped edition of Bridges of Madison county, recorded by its author, absolutely floored me. Tough guys beware. Don't listen to this with anyone else present, at least when playing the last quarter. I had no idea what this book was about; I thought it might be about a pioneer family. Watch out. How trite it must sound, to say a taped book changed me. These events really happened. God what a story. It's a must, but know it won't be easy listening. It is a mind-bender.
Rating: Summary: This book should have been published by Harlequin Review: Don't bother. Your time would be better spent watching All My Children.
Rating: Summary: Read this instead: Review: The Ditches of Edison County. If you hated "Bridges" as much as I did, this version will be extremely rewarding; if you happen to fall into that set of readers who liked the original, who knows--you might learn why you shouldn't.
Rating: Summary: i think that this book is a wonderful story of romance. Review: I think that The Bridges of Madison County was a excellent book. It showed how you can love to people . And how for one brief moment you can have everything you ever dreamed of. All in all i think that was a wonderful book . And that it is a wonderful story of romance
Rating: Summary: I hated this book Review: Sorry to say it, but this book wouldn't even get a passing grade in a creative writing class. Trite, overused prose, a predictable plot -- why did people rave about this book? And call me old-fashioned, but what is so romantic about a sleazy few days of sex while the husband and kids are out of town? What is saddest about this book (aside from the poor writing) is that Francesca then spends the rest of her life pining after this loser. After reading this, I was so depressed, I had to read a decent romance, and so pulled out Jane Eyre again. Now, THAT'S a good read!
Rating: Summary: A reminder for those who forgot that true things are simple Review: Little "literary" value in this book, but great one in terms of human feelings. It is all simple and this is it. All really true things are simple: the two characters, the opportunity, the story, the conclusion. How many of us realy remember that perfect things, in life as in art are simple, unbelievable simple? Those very few of us who do remember will find an old friend in this book.
Rating: Summary: Sigh Review: This book made me feel icky all over. There are certain fantasies that it's just smarter to keep private. This is one of them. I'm not sure what made me more uncomfortable, the lovers (argh, what a cliche) or the creeping sensation that it was all a big marketing ploy. Definitely not for anyone who is looking for something more than a stereotypical romance novel dressed as literature.
