Rating: Summary: Sloppy Story and Writing Review: This is easily the lousiest "chic lit" book I've read. The writing is bland and the characters are poorly fleshed out. More than once the author gets lazy and doesn't even bother to create a character herself but invokes a well-known character in pop culture and expects the reader to just insert that well-known character into her novel. For example, the main character is "Sarah Jessica Parker, but prettier." Her office mate is "Lillith," from Cheers and the show Frazier. The main character is the least endearing of any I've seen in a "chic lit" book, which is a bad thing considering that so much of the pleasure of reading these novels hinges on the ride the main character takes the reader on. I would analyze the storyline for you but it's so weak I've nearly completely forgotten it already.
Rating: Summary: milkrun was fun Review: A little slow at first but then your hooked.
Rating: Summary: As (or more) satisfying as a glass of milk with cookies Review: As yet another fan of the Bridget Jones genre, I found this book to be a slight but breezy and enjoyable read. Autor Sarah Mlynowski has a unique voice and a sassy sense of humor, both of which flow freely through her pages. While I myself have never been--and never will be---the bar-hopping type, I found it easy to identify with protagonist Jackie and her search for a mate, and I loved the many references to her work as a copy editor at a romance publishing house.
Rating: Summary: Loved it! Review: I really enjoyed reading this book. It's very funny, an easy-read, with characters you can relate to (if you are in your 20s). This is my first book of S. Mlynowsky's & now I can't wait to read "Fishbowl".
Rating: Summary: If you are between 22-26 you will like it! Review: I really enjoyed this book. It really captured what life is like in the early twenties. I could connect to Jackie and her friends and their quirky thoughts about life in general. I enjoyed how Mlynowski brought in things that only our generation in the early twenties, would relate to. The writing in the book was done well; I never got bored with too much meaningless information. At times it was pretty graphic, if you have read it you know what I mean, but I enjoyed the book thoroughly nonetheless. The only thing that I must admit is that the ending was a bit predictable. The ending did not sway my already high opinion of the book. I would definitely recommend this to anyone that is twenty something and like girlie books. I am looking forward to reading her next book!
Rating: Summary: Mildly Entertaining Review: This book sounded like a lot of fun - I love reading about women out there in the dating world like myself going on a dating spree. Unfortunately, the action happens so fast with very little descriptions, leaving the reader unable to get into the plot or the main characters. And she only goes on one or two "dates". I thought this was about "Crazy Dating Woman"? However, she does get drunk at the same club over and over again. It was mildly entertaining and slightly funny, but I would never recommend it, simply because it wasn't worth the time it took to read! I'd take Marian Keyes any day over this.
Rating: Summary: horrible Review: i wouldn't recommend this book to anyone. besides the fact that the story is not in the least bit interesting, sarah uses this-annoying-type-of-writing on almost every page and thinks it's funny.. it's obviously not and extremely irritating. i'd give this book no stars if i had the option.
Rating: Summary: mind-numbing Review: Perhaps its not appropriate for me to be writing a review of this book being that i dumped it in the garbage before even reaching chapter 2. I just felt the need to vent my frustration. this book does not have an ounce of wit or creativity. i rolled my eyes through all 27 pages that i read.
Rating: Summary: A terriffic read! Review: This is not my first venture into Chick Lit, nor will it be my last, but Mlynowski is bar far one of the best writing in the genre right now. She has great character development, and some of the moments will literally have you laughing out loud (I would know, I got some weird looks on the plane while reading it). Sure, the story is familiar, but when is it not with these kind of books? This is Mlynowski's first novel but she already puts herself leaps and bounds above some women writing in the genre, such as Clare Naylor. Enjoy this one, and do what I did, which is run out and buy Fishbowl, her second novel!
Rating: Summary: It was a very witty and real novel. Review: I really related to Milkrun. There were minimal grammical errors, with that set aside I found this book so great that I ran out to the bookstore and bought Fishbowl (another book by Sarah Mlynowski).
