Summary: Disappointed, a little surprised
Review: I'm not sure why I buy Grisham's books every time a new one comes out, but I haven't missed one yet. And there not that great, but almost always entertaining. That is not the case with the Brethren. This book has almost no redeeming qualities and reads as if Grisham didn't even enjoy it. There is virtually no plot and the characters are as unlikeable asany I've ever read. His previous novel, the Testament, showed a promising new side of Grisham. Combined with presidential intrique I expected a good read. Sorry.

Summary: what a letdown
Review: The Brethren started off well and then seemed to lose momentum. I found myself waiting for a climax than never came. Im not sure if it was a matter of a rushed ending or just a poorly developed plot. Whatever the case, I was quite disappointed with this one.

Review: first of all, I must say that i injoyed this book very much, this is the second REAL book I have ever read since i am only a 15 year old teenager, but as a person who is new to reading I truly did love this book by grisham, my friends had told me that he is a great writer and i said ok i should read a book of his and i did, so if any teenager might see this review- buy the book! 2 diffrent sub-plots connecting in an exiting way. great plot, awasome characters and a pretty nice ending.(wicth i really want to tell you about but i wont) i may not be a person who read alot of books but i truly did enjoy this one.BUY it

Summary: No too good...not that bad...
Review: Grisham knows how to tell a story. The setup here was very very cool, but the story just sort of... ended.... Whacking the drunk lawyer surprised me - seemed really out of place... I will continue to buy Mr. Grisham's books and will just figure he didn't have his heart into this one.

Summary: The Breathern
Review: Brilliant plot and character developement and accurate in depecting human reactions to stessfull situations but the story dies when Trevor the laywer/mule dies. Trevor, the least culpable and benign threat but proved most ethical is killed for being a drunk. He's the fool who just wanted enough money to be left alone. The convict breathern the designers of the extortion ring suffers no penalties and get eveything they wanted and remain unsatisfied. And what happen to Quincy? His charater develope and is forgotten as was the other victims of the scam. And Aaron Lake the one who had the most to lose was fully protected by Teddy whose clarity and brillance resides only in hindsight. There are no redeaming qualities in this book but such is life.

Summary: The Zenith was being fixed so I read a book
Review: WOW! I have been hearing alot about this John Grisham guy for sometime and now I know why! This guy sure does write good! I never was much of a reader, but when my Zenith went on the blink and while it was being repaired, the wife suggests that i read me a good book. Well admittedly, I don't do alot of the reading in my spare time but now thanks to this Grisham character, maybe I'll just leave the Zenith in the shop for another couple weeks. I flew through this book reading it in just about 3 weeks, (and the printing was pretty small too)and I gotta tell you I liked these lawyer characters. Anyways, I'm fixin to get one of his earlier books and making sure that this Breathren book wasn't just some kind of a fluke. Thank you Amazon.com for letting me express my opinion. Love, Leon S. Summary: Good storytelling, but not my favorite read
Review: I have read and enjoyed most of Grisham's novels, and I am eagerly waiting for "The Runaway Jury" and "The Partner" to be translated to films. As with the others, I had great difficulty putting this book down. Unlike the others, I could not put this book down, because I kept hoping that the next chapter would redeem the events of the last chapter. In the end, it did not. I could find no redeeming value in any of the characters. Every character is a liar on some level. The final result of the presidential campaign is a foregone conclusion. I felt no sympathy for the brethren, despite Grisham's very convincing depiction of Trumble, and I found myself anticipating when their day would come. To avoid giving away the only part of the ending that is a surprise, I will not expound on what kind of day I hoped for. I truly appreciated the realistic and "subdued" ending of Grisham's latter book, "The Testament," and I suppose an ending in that vein would have been more pleasing. Oh well, that's why I waited four months to borrow it from the library!

Summary: Wow, Mr. Grisham, what happened?
Review: Extremely disappointing, kept waiting for the book to reach the reason it remained #1 for weeks and weeks, it never got there! Almost seemed that Mr. Grisham had a deadline for one more book, so over a weekend he wrote one, weak plot, characters with virtually no development, thoroughly predictable and basically a story without no twists or turns... most disappointing compared with his past works...John, What Happened?

Summary: Better writing, but less gripping plot
Review: John Grisham's early writings were very choppy, but showed a lot of promise, but what made it all worth it was that you were never sure how the character would get out of his jam. Grisham's writing has gotten very smooth, and I am relieved to say he apparantly listened when readers complained that his works were becoming too formulaic. However, my pleasure in his writing was greatly diminished because, all along the way, I could think of dozens of ways for the various characters to escape their troubles, all of which were easier than the ones that Grisham had them choose. It was still an enjoyable read, and I will give Grisham another chance with his next book, but I hope he is able to instill a little more suspense, as well as characters that readers will care more deeply about.

Summary: More Grisham than ever
Review: I love the legal books, and this one didn't disappoint me. Grisham is sharper than ever, always keeping his pace, and getting you stick on it until the end. The plot grows slowly and before you notice it you're in the middle of a suspenceful thriller.
