Rating: Summary: Finally a Grisham book that I finished Review: I really enjoyed this book. I went to the book page and was surprised to see such a low star rating from other readers. I am a divorce attorney and when I read Grisham I usually don't care for it because the law environment he tries to create is ridiculous. This book was strange but good. It's not realistic but it doesn't pretend to be. This is just a story. It does leave you with a glow and thinking but you do want to keep reading it and by the time you decide the story has fragmented, you only have a chapter or so to go. Sometimes I won't finish a book like that but this one I did. That says something in itself because I buy about 5 books every two weeks and will not finish most. That, for me, is a good review.
Rating: Summary: An ok start, but... Review: Pretty average stuff. In breaking his "young, southern lawyer" formula for writing books, Grisham seems to have fallen in with the regular suspense/drama authors' formulas instead. The Brethren was predictable; it didn't take much to see how the two plots would be united. I kept on reading to see how he'd twist the ending on this one, but it never happened. However, the book did have some interesting ideas and I'd say it's a much better read than The Partner, but definitely not anywhere as intriguing as his older books like A Time to Kill or The Client.
Rating: Summary: Waiting... Review: I have all of Grisham's works and have enjoyed all of them; however, The Brethren, was quite a disappointment. The frustrating part is that it had all of the makings of an excellent book, but it did not have a build up of excitement nor did it end with an unpredictable conclusion. I will continue to read his books, but I have to say this was not one of his better works.
Rating: Summary: BIG DISAPPOINTMENT Review: I couldn't wait to purchase and read "The Brethren"; however, I found the book to be an extremely difficult read, and it took me weeks to complete it. I usually find anything that JG writes to be extremely entertaining, but I am forced to lump this one in the same category as "The Chamber," which I also found to be a difficult read.Maybe his next concoction will be better....?
Rating: Summary: Good until the End a BIG DISSAPOINTMENT Review: The book was well written until the last 50-100 pages. The ending was a very big let down from such a great author. I wish I had waited for the paper back version. It was not worth the hard cover price. I cant wait and really hope John Grisham can improve the endings fo future booksand that he will not feel rushed to finish the next novel. That is what it seems happened to the Brethren. the first and middle are well written then just falls short.
Rating: Summary: Brethren doesn't bond Review: This is the first time that a Grisham book disappointed me. The story line was not convincing and the ending was abysmal. None of the characters in this book were captivating. Better luck next time Mr. Grisham
Rating: Summary: I DON'T THINK SO! Review: I wish I had read the previous 354 reviews before reading this book. It was an easy read, which as we know is not a compliment. There just didn't seem to be any depth in the story line, plot or characters. On top of that, it was predictable. The ending was even weak. What kind of Grisham is that?
Rating: Summary: Not one of his best Review: I was disappointed in The Brethern. It was not up to the standards I have come to expect from John Grisham. It is shorter than most of his novels, and it appears he may have been in a rush to get to press. The plot was weak, and the ending even weaker. His descriptions and writing were, as usual, excellent. The story line is easy to follow, but I thought he could have added some more "intrique" into the plot.
Rating: Summary: Disappointing Review: I have been a JG fan since his first book. I always look forward to one of his new books coming out. Not this time. This book did not hold my interest at all. I was very disappointed in this book. As I was of The Testament.Mr.Grisham must be getting bored with writing. I will not be looking forward to his next book.
Rating: Summary: Great to begin with Review: Honestly, I enjoyed this book. Especially since it was pioneer for me. It was my first official read into the style of John Grisham. I've only recently become intrigued with plots, suspense, drama, and mayhem. Once the pages of "The Brethren" separated, I was engulfed. I could not put it down. I would encourage any novel novice to read this intriguing tale of suspenseful-drama. It could open up, or maybe even expand those analytic components of your mind. It may also help you to appreciate other pieces of plot-filled literature in a way that only a novice could.
