Review: The novel is a modern day classic. It is written in uncommon prose for our times. Evaluate it as if no other book existed that is the true test. Long: Sometimes. Predictable: Sometimes as well. Yet, moving and desciptive like you will seldom find among a new release. Narrow in the description of the Japanese during WWII, yes it is but, remember this book is a murder mystery first, Love story second NOT a historical novel. Wait until the movie hype dies down....read it on it's own.

Summary: A Modern Classic
Review: I am appalled at the number of middle school and high school students who are reading this book. It isn't really appropriate for many of them because they aren't ready for books that make them think. I teach English, and though I admit some of my middle and high school students would truly appreciate the beautiful prose and touching characters, most would believe it lacked action and a distinctive plot structure. Those who are ready seem to enjoy it and understand the point of reading it.

It's like a grown-up To Kill a Mockingbird -- the trial is interesting, but it isn't the focal point. The focal point is the ethical development and disillusionment of Ishmael and Hatsue as they mature in different ways at different times of their lives. Ishmael must come to understand Hatsue's Japanese heritage and what that means to her in the 1950's.

I truly believe this is a modern classic because it speaks to a time that many of us don't remember or don't want to remember. Yet it doesn't offend us . . . instead it draws us in and shows us the horrors of society and the beauty of individuals at the same time.

Summary: The book is over-rated.
Review: I was a little disappointed after reading the book. The book received good reviews and awards, and I had high expections of it. The book turned out to be average. The story was slow at times, and the ending was predictable.

Summary: "Snow Falling on Cedars
Review: David Guterson's Snow Falling on Cedars is a mind-boggling view of the mistakes people make in everyday life. It takes place 10 years after the second world war. Prejudices, racism, and deceit are just one of the few obsatcles in the book. A man is on trial for the crime of a murder. (Kabuo Miyamoto) This man is a strong, loyal and a very proud man. He will not bring shame to his name. His wife Hatsue is a different sort. She is also honorable and obeys Kabuo. She has never told him of the discreet affair beteween herself and a lost boy. (Ishmael Chambers) As sweet as the affair was, tragedy ensued and the two parted. The climax in the novel is really when all the tension and emotions that are running rampant. You just want to make eveything better. Finding out about a friendship that was severed years later is what makes this novel even better and is important to the trial. No one is safe on the island of San Piedro. They all believe the other person is guilty. The setting of the story gives the reader chills. It plays on the people's minds and everyone becomes edgier. A lot of symbolism is used. At the trial, you get a feel for how loyal Hatsue really is." Hatsue felt no serenity, her calmness was a practiced diguise. For her husband, she knew, was a mystery and had been after he had come back from the war. For her, this meant loving him in a way she had never imagined. She would defend him with her life." The smart thinking of Hatsue finallly ends the trial and saves a life. It is a powerful novel that leaves you with unanswered questions.

Summary: S.F.O.C. Story Review
Review: We remember movies and real life moments that magificently captures the inner dynamics of pain, sorrow, guilt, revenge, loss, redemption that comes from not allowing interracial love that flows from ones heart to another. Then just to be cast aside for anger, jealousy, or even frustation. I thought the book was very interesting. the reason why I say that is because it was long and yet fun to read. But duringCarl Heine's accident which led to his death made me want to keep on reading. Due to the fact that it was a mystery because all of the people who saw the court case thought that Kabuo did the murder. finally suprisring new evidence near the end of the novel states Which Carl Heine's death was caused by the wave of a bigger ship which was pasing by his little fishing boat.

Summary: No, Snow falling on cedars
Review: Haunting......A whodunit complete with courtroom maneuvering and surprising turns of evidence and at the same time a mystery, something altogether richer and deeper

This book had something for every body. Of course it did! it had too it is a best selling novel, built lets really look into this book. It is just like every other Love suspense thriller. It had its typical characters.....well the typical is fine but you should have the smarts to jazz this characters up a bit. Then the plot was a typical edge of your sit, heart throbbing story....or was it you could predict the story. There was not much point to read this book besides improve your reading skills and use up time. This book was quite the trend.

Summary: yeah
Review: David Guterson's novel Snow Falling on Cedars is a ravishing tale of love and justice with many twists and suprises. This story has got it all. This is the kind of story that lets the reader come to their own conclusion. Although it has many strong points to it, I felt that it focused too strongly on the love interest between two young teenagers, (Ishmael and Hatsue). I started to lose interest toward the end.

Summary: snow falling on cedars
Review: This book is a best seller written by David Guterson. it is a murder mystery that takes place in a place called Amity Island. a local fisherman was found dead one morning tangled up in his fishing nets with a bad head injury. everyone was quick to blame another fisherman named kabuo miyamoto. there was a lot of racial tension on the island and everyone thinks it is him no matter what. ishmael has loved kabuos wife, hatsue since they were kids. she coldly told him that they could not see each other anymore and she was quick to move on but ishmael never got over her. the whole story is told through mostly flashbacks. it is kind of confusing and hard to follow but for the most part it is not too bad. the book overall is not to bad but it drags on a little bit and is sort of confusing and the end it terrible.
