Rating: Summary: Escape into her world! Review: Jemima J This beach read was a true "thoughtless" pleasure for me to turn the pages of. Jemima J is not the most realistic character in the world, as she looses a massive amount of weight in a short period of time, but Jemima is someone whom everyone can identify with. Jemima longs for a man, for whom she feels she can not have (Ben Williams) because of her outward appearance. Jemima is a writer in a small paper that has dreams of becoming something else. Jemima meets a man, whose outward appearance is what she dreams of, but inside may not be what she needs. Jemima has a great friend (Geraldine) who is a 100% supportive fabulous friend, but Jemima is so very envious of what Geraldine looks like. Everywoman struggles with all of these things. This writer did not seem to intend to make this a book you had to ponder though, but intended this book to be an easy read. I loved it! This book took me away from my present and let me escape into the world of Jemima!
Rating: Summary: apparently, only weirdos love fatties Review: While I enjoyed most of the book and liked the author's writing style, I must say that I was put off with the ending. Trying not to give anything away here, but I must say that the dramatic crisis the author places Jemima in can only lead one to the conclusion that only weirdos like heavy girls, and the ultimate goal of anyone should be to lose the weight. The author ends with some pat statements that what counts is on the inside, etc., but, really, the biggest creep in the book is the one that liked big women. With that said, the book was an entertaining read to a point.
Rating: Summary: Finally some honestly Review: It is nice to read a book that humerously looks at our everday struggle with weight and the issues that come along with it. This book will crack you up - very entertaining and keeps you interested.
Rating: Summary: great book! Review: i would like to say that this was an awesome book! @_@ i loved it! it did seem a lil like bridget jones( also a great book) but then you get sucked into it and you cant put it down, i recently told a friend to read it, and she just told me she cant stop reading it, so all and all and to stop blabbing, cool book check it out
Rating: Summary: fun but unrealistic Review: This book was a quick and easy read. It is charming and makes the reader gain empathy for the main character Jemima J. I liked the book, however, I think it was unrealistic the way JJ lost all the weight; how she just changed to drastically. If you are a big girl you are not suddenly going to have the energy to become a gym rat and begin eating in a completely different manner. Also, the scenes in LA were a bit unrealistic as well. I live near LA/Beach and most of her depictions were stereotypical. She gave an image of what people think it is like here. Overall, I would recommend the book if you do not want a serious book. It offers a nice twist, but it ultimately proved to be pretty predictable. It was good, not great. Instead, read Good in Bed it is a GREAT book!
Rating: Summary: Sweet Book Review: I liked the book, "Jemima J" although I was sort of tired of the storyline in which an overweight woman finds happiness once she loses weight. Although the title character, Jemima, realizes that it's not size that makes a person, she still became quite obsessive in her quest to be come thin, which was originally for the wrong reasons. The story revolves around Jemima Jones who works at the Kilburn Herald in England writing a column about tips. She doesn't like her job, but she has such low self-esteem because of her size that she feels that this sort of life is all she deserves. She does have one incentive for staying at her job, Ben Williams. Ben is the exquisitely handsome co-worker Jemima has been in love with for a long time. Soon Jemima befriends Ben as well as another co-worker, Geraldine. One day Jemima logs in to the internet and finds a guy named Brad who lives in California. He seems to be a really great guy, but before they can meet, Jemima must lose weight. What happens next will leave you shocked, relieved, and eventually happy. While this is a good book for light reading, the situation between Brad and Jemima seems a little unrealistic. I couldn't honestly believe what was really going on with Brad and his life. His character just seemed very weak and ultimately stupid. The ending will leave you feeling all light and airy and happy. I would suggest this book to people who want to be put into the life of another person, possibly a person totally unlike themselves. Try it out and see what you think!
Rating: Summary: Great summer read Review: Jane Green delivers a fabulous summer read for those of us west of the pond that can't get enough of the trials and tribulations of our Brit sisters in action. Ugly duckling and heart attack waiting to happen Jemima is stuck in her dead end job, in love with the office pretty boy, and has no friends. Not to mention that she is as tall as she is wide - all is not too rosy for our heroine. All of a sudden a little internet dalliance and BAM - she loses her weight, finds some unexpected friends and learns that looks WILL get you everything, but at often too high a price. True some of the things that happen to Jemima are a little unrealistic, but this "judge a book by its cover" tale really leaves the reader satisfied and reaching for another Jane Green book - or three. I am not a small woman - and for those out there who feel this offends them and their larger size I have one thing to say -- DON'T READ IT, that leave more copies for the rest of us to buy.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely wonderful! Review: I loved this book so much. It has been passed around the family several times. Definitely recommend!!
Rating: Summary: Feel Good Fun Book!! Review: This is way better than Good In Bed! I do a lot of traveling and this book took me away from the structure, serious business environment of corporate America. This was an excellent book; every woman can relate to it. It's not about being skinny; it's about being comfortable with you. I love that it emphasizes that you shouldn't change yourself to accommodate others. Everyone I know that has read it has laugh out loud and feels it's close to their heart and modern day female insecurity. You learn that changing yourself to please a man is not a secure path to happiness. Plus, how Jane tells the story is witting and funny. Great travel book.
Rating: Summary: I Really Don't Understand... Review: Why this novel received such poor reviews! I absolutely loved it! I found Green's writing to be very much in sync with the feels of an overweight woman, which I am. I found the characters likeable and the plot to be very good. I related very heavily to Jemima and her plight. I would definitely recommend this novel to others, especially readers who enjoyed such novels as Bridget Jones' Diary, In Her Shoes, Good in Bed, Confessions of a Shopaholic, etc.
