Summary: Jane Green¿s Jemima J.: a novel about ugly ducklings and swa
Review: Although I loved Jane Green's novel Jemima J: a novel about ugly ducklings and swans, the book was simply a story of the "American Dream". The novel included not one literary device which in turn weakened the overall message the author is trying to portray in the novel. Green tells the story of an obese business woman, that is constantly trying to live up to the socities expectations. Provoked and tormented by her thin, beautiful roommates Jemima feels it is an absolute necessity to be skinny, however, she is in a constant state of depression because she is already fat and thus eats to much to be able to lose weight. She is stuck in a constant cycle, she eats because she is unhappy and she is unhappy because she eats. The turning point however in her downward spirl of a life, comes with the introduction of a handsome young man she originally meets over the internet. The desire of this young man to meet her in person drives her to become the person that he "knows". In the end, much like a classic fairytale, Jemima's life turns out perfect, handsome prince and all.

Summary: Horribly Horrible
Review: I have never been so dissapointed in a book as I was with this one. Does the author, Jane Green, do any research before she writes a book? It sure didn't look that way to me.

First off..when I started reading this book my picture of Jemima was an extremely overweight woman. I mean very unhealthy overweight. I read on to find out Jemima is 5'7" and 204 lbs. Granted, she is overweight, BUT, she should not have "3 double chins" it should not take her "10 minutes to stroke her tummy from one side to another". And then the whole internet deal. The author mentions that Jemima's work place was 4 years late with the installation of the "world wide web". 4 years?? It should more be like 6 or 7. Its a newspaper! Dont you think they would have had the internet alot sooner for research and other things. Then on to L.A. since when did L.A. become so friendly and fantasy like? Has the author ever been there?

UGH! I didnt want to finish this book, but since I paid 13 dollars for it I figured I better. I will NEVER buy another book by this author. I will not be let down again!

Summary: An Amazing Book!
Review: I absolutely loved this book! I couldn't put it down. Jane Green is able to get inside the head of an overweight girl and tell it like it is. The book goes to show that being slim doesn't make life wonderful, it is who you are on the inside that determines your happiness. I definately recommend this book to any woman out there, it was fantastic!!

Summary: What a great read!
Review: I am exhausted today! If I have anyone to blame it's Jane Green. Her page turning books continually keep me awake all hours of the night. Green's book, Jemima J is no exception. Her knack for developing characters you can care about is tops in the "Chick Lit" genre. If you've ever struggled with your weight, dreamed of a better more rewarding profession or had a crush on a seemingly unobtainable man...please read this book. If you are new to the British Single-Girl literature, give Green a try. I can guarantee that you'll be reading all of her books.

Summary: A Fun Read
Review: I enjoyed the book very much. Is it great literature? Of course not, and it doesn't pretend to be. I read some of the reviews and wondered at the review that said her anorexic sister recommended it and anorexics are the only ones who could relate? Excuse me? The woman was overweight; overweight women can relate to how she felt when she was heavy and how she felt when she lost the weight. That review also decried the book and its style. It's not Anna Karenina and if you thought it was, I think the cover alone would have cleared that up. Let's review books for actual content and not just try to be clever and see our name in print. Great light reading.

Summary: im not sure what i think of this book
Review: its a good read, thats without a doubt. but im not sure about the moral.

sure the girl wanted to make herself more appealing to the guy, but at what cost? sure she was "happier" when she was thin, but she wasnt really happy. sure the men looked at her, but she didnt have the inner beauty going on. and what really irked me was that she was a size 16 and "huge" ......um...... no. sizes 12-16/18 are NORMAL in this day and age.

and the ending of the book? the elusive ben only noticing her because she was a size 2..even though she had been in his life way back when she was a size 16? i was not impressed with ben at that point, nor with jemima for falling for him in all his shallowness.

this book was good..... until the end

Summary: Too unrealistic
Review: I picked this book up because I felt like the girl in the story--overweight. But she solves her problem too easily. There's no struggle. Despite the fact that she has no drive, once she decides she's going to do it, she, well, just does. How convenient. Also, she never really learns anything. She teaches that thin=beautiful, but only borders on learning that that's not the right attitude. The character is lame, naive, while at the same time confident and determined. She doesn't develop into one or the other, rather is at any point in time any of those things. The book resolves too quickly and is completely unrealistic.

To top it off, you know after about the third chapter exactly how the book will turn out. Very, very typical fairy tale story.

If you want a better book about conquering your weight in your 20s, read Good in Bed. Much better and much more in tune to the thoughts that go through a woman's head.

Summary: Jemima J
Review: I love, love, love Jane Green! She has written some of the most fun books that I have read in a long time. After reading 'MR. MAYBE' I rushed out to buy 'JEMIMA J', one of Green's most critically acclaimed books and if you were to ask me which of the two I like best I would not be able to tell you because I LOVED them both!

Jemima Jones is about 120lbs. over weight with very few friends and a dead end job, that is until she befriends co-workers Geraldine and the love of her life (whom she has barley spoken two words to up until this point) Ben. This brand new popularity gives Jemima a new found confidence that inspires her to start losing the weight and for the first time start living her life. So when Brad, a man that Jemima had been "dating' via an internet chat room asks her to come to LA for a visit she throws caution to the wind and decides to show off her new look in the land of the beautiful. But as Jemima soon learns being thin is not all it is cracked up to be if what was making you unhappy for so long had nothing to do with the way you looked.

Summary: Overall inspiring
Review: I was a little worried that I was starting to read another dud for the first few chapters but that soon changed. I felt I could relate to Jemima and what she was feeling. Although the ending seemed unrealistical, overall I would say the book was great and very inspiring. Even though things don't always have a fairy tale ending, Jemima J gives you a sense of "Maybe someday everything will work out for me too".

Summary: Lame, Lame, Lame
Review: I have only myself to blame for reading this. And yes, I read the whole book. About half way through I thought this author's writing seemed vaguely familiar. Quick flip to the back - Mr. Maybe. Ah, made sense now.
Ms. Green is indeed, out of touch with modern reality and about 10 years too late on technolody as a previous reviewer stated. Her writing is spotty at best, and her choice of story lines and characters seem to be 'made up' in haste - to please the small reading audience that finds fashion and true love to be one in the same.
I find Ms. Green is guilty of, apparently, reading the local Hollywood rags, newspaper, magazines..etc. and then writing her desciptions of L.A. hoping no one will notice the mistakes and silliness. L.A. is another country isn't it? And by Ms. Greens own depiction, no one reads book in L.A. anyway.
As for the storyline. Lame Lame Lame. Again, totally out of touch with an 'overweight' woman's reality. One liners here and there about being fit and healthy, but I found these to be thrown in as to not appear to promote unsafe dieting and excercise. An after thought...perhaps the editor's?
Bottom line: Thin = beautiful. And you MUST get there no matter the costs. Then your life will be perfect = great clothes, great loves, great job.
Ms. Green should stick to writing about something she knows something about, though I can't imagine what that is.
