Rating: Summary: Who wouldn't love Pablo Neruda? Review: A fine collection of his works - for those of you who know and love this poet, this is a wonderful addition to your collection. For those of you new to him, this is a great introduction to this romantic poet. What woman does not long to be loved the way Neruda did his wife? A few collections from this book will be read at my upcoming wedding. The addition of both English and Spanish really makes you feel that you are reading Neruda's true voice.
Rating: Summary: UN LIBRO DE COLECCION Review: A MUST HAVE. Es sin duda un libro que vas a cuidar y conservar con mucho cariño. La recoleccion de poemas es brillante, exquisita, de primera. Quien no ha leido a Neruda? Lo bello del libro es que ofrece los poemas en el idioma que fueron escritos y en Ingles. La traduccion al ingles es excelente. No hay mucho que hablar sobre este libro, los poemas son una obra de arte y que esten a la vez traducidos al Ingles ya es mas que un buen regalo. No pienses dos veces en obtenerlo.

Rating: Summary: Who wouldn't love Pablo Neruda? Review: If you are a fan of poetry and a student of Spanish, I highly suggest this book. If you want to just read the English, find a different book because this translation from the original Spanish into English is without any feeling. If you use the original, beautiful Spanish verses of Neruda as a jumping point, their true beauty can pulled from the dry and cranky English translation and make for an altogether interesting and interactive reading experience. You have to work a little, but it's worth it! :-)

Rating: Summary: Quintessential Poet of 20th Century Review: Lost in the forest, I broke off a dark twig and lifted its whisper to my thirsty lips: maybe it was the voice of the rain crying, a cracked bell, or a torn heart. Something from far off it seemed deep and secret to me, hidden by the earth, a shout muffled by huge autumns, by the moist half-open darkness of the leaves. Wakening from the dreaming forest there, the hazel-sprig sang under my tongue, its drifting fragrance climbed up through my conscious mind as if suddenly the roots I had left behind cried out to me, the land I had lost with my childhood and I stopped, wounded by the wandering scent. ************************************************************** For anyone interested in poetry, reading Pablo Neruda should be a mandatory experience. His style is allusive and then understanadable, but unexplainable. He finds beauty in the ordinary and contrary, in the object and the emotion, in the creature and the creature in the man. His words run together so effortlessly that they are an art perfected. They are complete and free and timeless. I only wish I could write half as well. In my opinion, this compilation captures him best. You get a taste of all of his moods and measurements of the world.

Rating: Summary: Neruda, the greatest Review: Neruda is truly the greatest literary voice of Chile in its entire history, and one of the biggest of latin american poetry of all the XX century, place which shares with mexican Octavio Paz. Neruda has been labeled in many ways, "poet of love", "politic poet", but he was beyond all this shallow aliases, he was a true poet in all the sense of the word. This volume is a good (but not quite perfect) aproximation to the works of the poet if Isla Negra, it lacks some poems, so the selection could have been better, and also it has translation mistakes (like not translating "calle maruri" in "Maruri street". This book is an entrance to the poetry of Neruda, but not the definite word.
