Summary: Performing as a High School Play
Review: My high school, North County High School, in MD, is performing "Night of ..." as our fall play. I'll tell you, of all the plays we could have selected, I believe this is the worst choice. The writing is time-pieced, making it hard to perform on a limited costume budget. My liberal school system won't allow key scenes like the part of Karen Andre's testimony describing her rape and parts of the maid's testimony that describe the outfits she wore for Faulkner. We are also not allowed to have a prop gun on-stage, so we must use pictures of a gun. ... Beyond that, though, there is the fact that the play itself is a mess. The testimonies are so lopsided, that Karen Andre, according to Ayn Rand, MUST be innocent. I myself play John Graham Whitfield, and I cannot help but think that I killed him as the testimonies of "Guts Regan" and Junquist imply. This is not, and should not ever have been considered, an interactive play. The random audience members that make up the jury will obviously decide that she is not guilty.

Summary: Exciting Review
Review: Night of January 16 th is an excellent play . It kept me guessing all the way through. I like to read and this play was the best play i have ever read.
I have never read anything by Ayn Rand but now I think I will.
This play was based on an actual Murder trial of Ivar Kruger.
There is something about just knowing that the events that you are reading have actually in all reality taken place.
It's kind of like being nosey or spreading gossip but with permission.
I have read this play and will probobly read another by this incredible author.
Here are the titles of some of her other books
"Anthem", "We the living", "The fountainhead", and "Atlas".
This is my review I really like the play and I know that if you took the time to read it you would too.

Summary: The Fizz That Went Flat
Review: O.k I'm a major book reader and I like to read mysteries, but this was a mystery, mystery and what I mean by that is the guy "Guts" Regan comes from nowhere then tells Karen Andre that Bjorn Faulkner is dead. And she is surprised... isn't that the reason you're on trial for murder? And then the end oh gosh somebody give the author some Gatorade so she can finish off strong next time. Why did it not have a true ending? Why did she have to make it so difficult to read? Was she guilty or not? Why did she put it in two diffrent perspectives rather than just give us a "guilty" or "not guilty" verdict?

Review: this is a very short play about a murder trial with a unique aspect which requires that the audience be the jury and the ending of the play changes depending on the verdict.

it follows the basic philosophy of ayn rand and deals with powerful people--here of an evil nature. the preface, written by ms rand adds a great deal to understanding the basis and meaning of the play--eventhough she cries alot about how "hollywood" has butchered her work.

the problem is the play is so contrived. the audience feels manipulated through the process to create a criminal case that could go either way. i however didn't care.

in simple terms, this an easy way to get an understanding of ayn rand without trudging through "atlas shrugged" or "the fountainhead".

Summary: Great play
Review: This would make an interesting play to be seen on stage. Night of January 16th is an interesting play with some controversial topics or situations. There is an alternative ending which would make it ideal for a high school or college discussion on the processes of morality and justice in law. I found this to be a very clever play. Well worth your time!!

Review: We are performing this play at our High School(Davis High-Utah). We open on March 4, this coming Thursday. I play Magda Svenson, I love this character and I am so excited for this play. I am also excited to really actually ACT and show our school what we are made of. Every time we reahearse this play I love it even more. I ecspecially love Ayn Rands view of objectiveism, it is so cool. Thank you for this play and allowing me and my class to portray it to the best of our ability. Again Thank you and good-bye! From Hali Fifield
