Rating: Summary: Good Reading - not for very young women Review: I loved this book. I couldn't put it down. It only took me 2 1/2 days to read it. I really could relate with Vix in this book. I think each of us has or had a friend like Caitlin. That toxic friend that no matter what we stood by. The tale of their friendship and all of the trials that they endured. The ending is a must read. I was shocked to say the least. Definitely a good beach read.
Rating: Summary: Not for young readers! Actually, not for ANYONE! Review: I am writing this review primarily to alert parents who might be lead to suppose that this an appropriate book for their adolescent daughters, based on their familiarity with Ms. Blume's writings for younger children. For several years, this book has been popular summer reading for teens, and I can think of few books less suitable. There is barely one estimable character in the entire book. The young heroines are selfish, immoral, disloyal, and shallow. Young women can learn absolutely nothing of value from their adventures and actions. And no young woman who hopes to live on terms of mutual respect and equal dignity with the opposite sex has anything to gain from exposure to Ms. Blume's treatment of men in this book. Her male creations are too often gutless and vapid; yet, annoyingly, our "heroines" calculate their own success and self-worth in terms of the men they are able to latch onto. Do your kids a favor and place this sad and cynical volume in your Terrorism Preparedness Kit for use as emergency bathroom tissue.
Rating: Summary: Great Book for Women Review: This book was so great. I loved Judy Blume as a child and love her now as an adult too. This is the first adult fiction book I have read by her. I love this book so much I read it in two days. I definelty recommend this book for 18+ women.
Rating: Summary: If Only I had a Summer Sister! Review: The up's and downs of the adventurous lives of two summer sisters striving to survive a fantasy friendship is suspenseful as their lives are brought to life. Judy Blume in "Summer Sisters" shares with us a touching story of an eighteen year friendship and its lasting effects. An enduring relationship between Vix and Caitlin begin with a summer spent together at Martha's Vineyard with Caitlin's family. The story follows a cast of diverse characters through family troubles, 'first loves,' college, marriage, and motherhood. As they grow older, they manage to get jobs together, cleaning the houses of wealthy families on the islands. However, things begin to gradually change and the girls begin to grow apart, especially when Vix goes off to her Ivy League school, and Caitlin gets restless. Judy Blume has the ability to create characters that the reader can easily see them self in. She uses viewpoints of different characters and their perspectives to add depth and character and keeps the reader wondering about how each character feels. In this novel, Blume has proven herself as a writer that she can touch the hearts of adults and teenagers. "Summer Sisters" is a moving story, which has the ability to make a reader feel strong emotions such as love and hate and can easily make the reader laugh or cry. Because the story moves at such a fast pace, capturing the interest of the reader, it makes the book truly impossible to put down. The ending is unexpected and open-minded. My only complaint with the novel is that it ends too soon. I can't wait until Judy Blume makes a sequel! Although "Summer Sisters" can be enjoyed by many, one has to be mature enough to handle the descriptive sexual content. In addition, I got the impression that it would be a bit too girly for most men. "Summer Sisters" is an easy and thoroughly, enjoyable read. Don't let summer end without reading "Summer Sisters!"
Rating: Summary: One of the best books I have ever read Review: I wasn't sure about this book, but I picked it up because it looked like it could prove interesting. To my surprise it is now one of my all time favorite books. When it ended I wanted to read it again or make Judy Blume write a sequel. She should really consider that!!! This book tells the story of two very unlikely friends, who are worlds apart from each other, but remain summer sisters or best friends through everything - betrayals, family crisis, men, love, etc. It is just such a real story, you can all probably relate to being like Vix and having a Caitlin in your life or maybe you are a Caitlin and your lucky to have a Vix - either way its totally awesome!!!
Rating: Summary: Summer Sisters Review: It was an exciting story about two unlikely friends and the journey through their lives. Blume did a great job of adding imagery and detail. I hope there will be a sequal.

Rating: Summary: My favorite book and I'll tell you why... Review: I read this book for the first time when I was fourteen. I was only a little bit older than the main characters, Vix and Caitlin, at the time, and I related well to the younger parts and really enjoyed as they grew up. Since then I ahve reread it so many time that I have lost count. I'm nineteen now and I have been able to relate many of my teenage experiences with those of Vix and Caitlin. My life is nothing like theirs. I did not grow up in the same era. But I believe that this book has the capacity to be relatable to ANYONE. Guy, girl, young, old. THis book is excellent, and I would like to meet someone who doesn't like this book!
Rating: Summary: GREAT SUMMER READ! HEARTWARMING! Review: I read this book a few years ago, and LOVED it! Unfortunately, I haven't come across many books in a long time that can hold my attention from beginning to end, but this one I COULDN'T PUT DOWN! I carried the book everywhere with me, and found myself turning in for the night early just to read for an hour or so. It's very heartwarming and real - something you can relate to. You really begin to feel for the two girls - as if you know them personally. As if, in a sense, they are a part of what you once were yourself, and in a sense, part of who you still may be somewhere deep within. Two total opposites with so much in common. I loved the whole concept of this book. It really got to the heart of friendships, relationships, and those awkward adolescent years (and into adulthood) and it touched upon betrayal of even those who only mean the best for the other, but sometimes life has other plans. You'll see what I mean - get yourself a copy! This is a great summer read!
Rating: Summary: Heartwarming Review: I'm a teen and I can relate to the lives of the characters from this novel. I read the whole thing in one day and by the end I was in tears. It made me think of my own relationships and how they change but remain strong over the years. I recommend this novel strongly to anyone who loves to read. I loved it so much and right after I read it I ran out to get Forever by Judy Blume which is also another amazing novel.
