Summary: One of my favorite books of all time
Review: I read a lot of books, and Point of Impact remains one of the best fiction books I've ever read. I must have read this book 20 times, going back in it to read the main parts over and over again. You don't need to be a gun nut to read this book, the characters and action alone are enough to hook you.

To be honest, I stopped reading Stephen Hunter's later books after one or two failed attempts to recapture the magic of this book. All the later novels, despite being written as prequals to this, seem like spinoffs from a successful tv show and never as good as the original. Day before Midnight was excellent but that's about it.

Summary: Dont expect a life changing experience
Review: A good fun read, and very hard to put down- but don't expect a life changing experince.

The central cahracter Bob Lee Swagger, is plucked from retirement to test some new ammunition. Surprisingly he finds himself set up , and must use his wits and his Remington 700 to clear his name. So much for the plot. What you have hear is an enjoyable romp, with bad bad guys, good good guys and a few helpless women thrown in along the way. Bob Lee is a well sketched out character, and if you can you can ignore a number of serious plot flaws you will find a very enjoyable techno thriller.

Incidentally, as a shooter of some talent myself, most of the technical stuff is about right.

Summary: If you want to read the best, this is it
Review: This book was my first experience several years ago reading Stephen Hunter, and I was hooked. I've read them all since, and as much as I look forward to a new Hunter book, Point of Impact is hard to beat. If you haven't read Stephen Hunter, you're missing out!

Summary: I dare you to put this book down!
Review: I was listening to National Public Radio and Stephen
Hunter was reviewing a movie. A caller asked him why his
book "Point of Impact" hadn't been made into a movie. I
filed this away and bought his book a few days later. Wow,
was I impressed. Swaggers, a Vietnam sniper, was just minding his own business when he was called to action. I absolutely could not put it down. I read through the night and was totally
mesmerized by the plot, characterization, and ultimate ending.
This is one of my favorite books ever...and I read a lot. I
couldn't wait to read another Hunter book, however, "Tapestry of
Spies" was kind of disappointing. I'm ready for "Dirty White
Boys." Maybe it will get me back into the Hunter groove.

Summary: Very good enternainment
Review: Just great entertainment. The story really carries you on. Very fluently written... reads easily. A negative point is that the book sometimes gives a lot of details about guns and rifles : I don't know anything about this and it doesn't really interest me either. Especially during the first 100 pages, this was sometimes a pain. But overall, it was great to read this book. I would certainly recommend it !

Summary: Hard Corps
Review: Bob Lee Swagger is the ultimate anti-hero. He served his country as a Marine Corps sniper in Vietnam, with 87 confirmed kils. Now Bob just wants to be left alone to his peaceful existence in the Arkansas wilderness, but certain people have other plans for him. Swagger is lured away from his home, back in to action with the promise of the oppurtunity to take revenge on the man who tragically ended his career twenty years ago, and killed Bob's best friend. Swagger is duped by a shadowy government agency, set up as a patsy in one of the greatest assassination attempts of the century. He must then fight to prove his innocence with the help of disgraced FBI agent Nick Memphis, the only way he knows how: with the cunning mind of a sniper, and plenty of 150-grain slugs.
This book is absolutely my favorite novel ever. I have re-read it 3 times since I first bought it a year or so ago, and was my first read of Stephen Hunter's work. He knows what he is writing about, for a fact. As a bit of a rifle collector and a Marine myself, it is very rewarding to read a book where both are presented accurately. Hunter must have put in plenty of time researching benchshooting and the Marine Corps, and it shows. This novel is a superbly written thriller, and the pace is non-stop. Point of Impact is a great read, and well worth your time and money.

Summary: Great Page Turner!
Review: This book will keep you interested, despite some flaws. Overall this is a great "reluctant hero" story. If you enjoy sniping/shooting as an art as well as a skill you'll appriciate the main character much more. Some of the characters are one dimensional but you still root for the good guys and hate the bad ones long after you should have gone to bed. Over all a fun very entertaining read.

Summary: Overall Excellent Book
Review: Great book, this was my introduction to the author and I have sense read a number of his other books. I do find that this series is his best. There is just something about the main character that you really get to like. It is not that he is a great human, he just has a human quality that comes through. I think we get to know him becuase the author does such a good job of dropping into the story bits of the lead characters life and thoughts so you really come away with a strong sense of the man. I love the level of detail and the story that takes in all the twists and really makes it work. This is a book for a reader that wants to become part of the story and pay attention, it is not the light cookie cuter books like Jack Higgins et all. This book is a very good action book that is well written.

Summary: Great Book!
Review: I loved this book. Hunter left me dehydrated because I couldn't put it down long enough to get another drink. Great action with many twists and turns. Hunter leaves you wondering what will happen next. I just loved this book

Summary: Gun Enthusiasts Will Love This One
Review: Bob Lee Swagger a.k.a. Bob the Nailer was the second most successful sharpshooter of the Vietnam War. However, twenty years later with the glory behind him, Bob leads a secluded life in the woods of Arkansas. He lives in his trailer with only the company of his beloved dog. Despite the pain of an old war wound, Bob does not give up his love of guns and hunting. Countless hours he spends painstakingly making his way through rough terrain to kill big game.

But the quiet life that Bob Lee Swagger savors takes a dramatic turn after some so-called intelligence agents approach him claiming they desire his expertise in ammunition. They make a job offer he can't refuse. Bob bites the bait.....the trap is set.....hell is sprung.

The action shifts into full gear, as Bob's seemingly innocent "job" becomes the framework for setting him up as an assassin. After the killing of a prominent political figure takes place, Bob the Nailer carries a price on his head and becomes the target of the greatest manhunt in U.S. history. Amazingly Bob stays one step ahead of law enforcement as he dodges capture whilst collecting evidence to clear his name. Meanwhile, his only allies are Nick Memphis, a disgraced FBI agent, and Julie Fenn, a woman he barely knows.

Stephen Hunter gives precise details on firearms, ammunition, and sniper procedures in this book. Not having much knowledge in this area myself, I can't verify if his facts are accurate. However, my hunch is they are, which should please the most zealous gun owners. Anyone interested in suspense, military conspiracies, and large-scale shootouts will no doubt be nailed to their chair while reading the power-packed Point of Impact.
