Summary: MICROSCOPIC CHINESE?
Review: Kurt Vonnegut out-did himself with SLAPSTICK. All of his books are of the highest literary quality, but this one is amazing in it's scope and irreverance. It seems to take nothing seriously, but manages to keep you interested with its interesting (and amusing) twists. Freakish twin geniuses, microscopic Chinese, pyramids of garbage, fluctuating gravity, trips to Mars, and the end of civilization. What more could you ask for in a book?

Summary: Slapstick is an exciting look at the oddest of odd.
Review: Slapstick, the novel by Kurt Vonnegut, is an exciting take on the oddest of odd. The story of freakish twins who grow up sharing one mind, captures the audience's attention with it's originality, and hidden humor. The novel becomes difficult to put down because of it's interesting plot. Because of it's difference to other novels, Slapstick is a one of a kind book that everyone should take the time to read. The story gives the reader a new understanding and thoughtfulness of life.

Summary: Beautifully disfunctional reading....
Review: Slapstick is one of the best novels I've ever read.... a true work of bizarre, contemporary fiction. Vonnegut's balance of the abstract and the hell that is humanity is in full gear here, with microscopic Chinese people and talking to the dead and government sanctioned middle names... just read the book! I can't even begin to describe it! 5 stars, quick read, well written... excellent!

Summary: STAY AWAY FROM THE JERRY LEWIS FILM !!!
Review: I'm not into awarding stars to books, films, etc., but as long as it helps other people know how dear I hold a book within a particular author's bibliography, HEY, LET'S DO IT !! SLAPSTICK, though not a favourite of mine, kicks literary ass !! People from all around the World: KURT VONNEGUT Jr. is not only worth your time, his FUN, FUN, FUN !!

Summary: Why don't you take a flying f**k at a donut?
Review: It does not matter that many people fail to see the "literary merit" in this novel. People who worry about "literary merit" are people who hate life and spend their free time with psychiatrists discussing why they are no longer able to enjoy sex. One cannot read this book and simply refer to it as entertaining: it is one of the greatest acts of comedy ever to have been lain onto paper. As for the literary merit, one must remember this: Shakespeare's comedies have survived the trial of time.

Summary: A real dog ... what was he thinking?
Review: One of Vonnegut's worst. The plot and characters are all over the map. There is a lot of sillyness, as usual for KV, but undirected sillyness. He's not telling us anything, just enough bizarre vignettes to fill up a book.

I've read almost everything he's ever written (except Palm Sunday, which is next) and this, along with Hocus Pocus, were the only two disappointments.

Summary: Vonnegut's downhome Dadaist look at 1 of many USA futures.
Review: Vonnegut's downhome Dadaist look at 1 of many USA futures is engrossing entertaining and like a Model-A cruising in Outerspace.

Summary: Entertaining, but where's the literary merit?!?!?
Review: This book was entertaining, but nothing stellar. I used it in this year's AP English exam, as an example of a book that was more interesting because of its "wild and free thinking." I mentioned orgies, gravity-induced erections, and drugs. I think it is a great example of wild and free thinking, I just hope the AP essay readers don't think _I'm_ the sicko. It's a nice summer read, and the style is a little wacky and a usually entertaining enough to make you want to keep reading. I have yet to read Slaughterhouse 5, and I'm not sure if this book makes me want to read another Vonnegut book. Maybe I'll give it a try and hope he can prove his literary talent a bit more...

Summary: Loved it - All other's opinions dismissed!
Review: I absolutely love this book. It was the 2nd Vonnegut I read (after Breakfast of Champions). I subsequently read Galapagos and Mother Night.

I have to, thusfar, rank Slapstick in a dead heat with Galapagos as my fave's from Vonnegut.

I am not one to laugh out loud (to this point) at Vonnegut, but he does make me think - and that is the best recommendation I can give.

Want a real belly laugh -read something absurdly funny like The Hitchiker's Guide.. a great book in that vein. If you wan't a great thinker - with an occasional grimace or smile... pick up some Vonnegut.

Summary: an absurd page turner
Review: i finished slapstick in two days. the pace of the novel is fast and definitely diverts from monotony. the book is often humorous and contains some brilliant satire. this is vintage vonnegut however i do not think this is one of his best works.
