Rating: Summary: A book worth the read Review: Charlotte Bronte was a remarkable writer. Her use of elements of liturature is truly commendable. I loved the story line, and even with the use of foreshadowing, the ending was great.
Rating: Summary: A Model Heroine for Independent Women Review: Jane Eyre is one of the best books I have read in recent years. In comparison to the novels I have read of the same time period, it is engaging and thought-provoking. Jane is a woman of incredible intelligence who walked a fine line between doing what she chose and following society's conventions. "Reader, I married him" --You go, girl.
Rating: Summary: This is a beautiful story of love and lies!!!!!! Review: I absolutely recomend this book. If you love mystery and romance, then this should be a good book for you. Jane is a bit like most of us and she is in the end torn between what she wants and what must be. Choosing the latter she is rewarded well. Excellent book!!!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Absolutely and surprisingly fantastic! Review: I'm not much into classics, but Jane Eyre was magnificent! It was compelling. I sat at the edge of my seat salivating for the ending. Okay, not really salivating. But it was really good!!!
Rating: Summary: this would make a good modern story Review: we have been reading this book in my tenth grade honors english class. our entire classtime is spend in deep conversation and it's all really good too. today we got the assignment to rewrite part of the book as a modern story... if u don't enjoy this book i recommend rereading it as if it wuz modern.... it's a lot more interesting and easy to understand that way...plus it's a good way to get into that creative writing thang.... and for those of you who haven't started reading the book....go for it..it's a classic u gotta read it
Rating: Summary: One of the Greatest Novels in English Language Review: I'm a mature male and NOT ashamed to declare that I cried like a baby while reading this timeless literary masterpiece. It's incredible what a gifted writer can produce, i.e. a fictional character who'd come to be more "real" to you than actual people in your lives, and far more unforgettable. "Jane Eyre" is not just for females - I exhort all males to jump in and lose yourself in this book.
Rating: Summary: Sappy Romance!!!! Review: I'm sorry but this was the biggest waste of paper I have ever seen in my life. It is a stupid excuse for a romance novel and I found the long and detailed descriptions of nothing, utterly boring. It is a set text for our school but even our English class couldn't bear to read the whole thing so we skimmed chapter by chapter, gave up and watched the film (which I might add didn't resembled the book at all). I am quite well educated, have a good understanding of the english language and apprieciate good books, but I was appalled at this ridiculous fairy story and I believe it should be taken off schools set text lists.
Rating: Summary: I was not particularly pleased. Review: Though I did enjoy Jane Eyre, I found that the author, in my opinion, sometimes took an extremely long time to get through something. At one point, the author actually says 'I need but a few lines to expain the next 5 years of my life' or something to the effect of that, and she take at least 3 pages doing it. I don't have the largest attention span, and sometimes Jane Eyre just took too long for me to keep going.
Rating: Summary: Pretty Good Review: Although it's not as good as Wuthering Heights, the story of Jane and Rochester is a good one. Jane, after having an uphappy childhood, deserves the love and happiness she feels with Rochester. The ending was a bit of a suprise.
Rating: Summary: Craving More Novels as Such Review: Upon finishing the book, my thoughts have become greatly preoccupied with "Jane Eyre," first-class novel by Charlotte Bronte. I have never considered myself a romance-book lover, but upon reading "Jane Eyre," I crave for more books which explore the idea of social constrains and the power of a heart that brakes them. It serves a great pleasure to read a novel narrated in a first person by a woman whose intellect places her above her position. This is a great book for those who are interested in the behind scenes of human perspective and feelings, associated with their particular situation. To truly get to know the main character, Jane, we have to, and we're glad to, be introduced to her inner thoughts. She narrates as a friend might narrate a story. I particularly enjoyed, or rather was annoyed with, the character developed by Bronte -- St. John, who is more than just plain irritating with his idea of making Jane his "labourer" in a religious mission to India. Was it only me, or did anybody else find his suggestion of a "missionary marriage" ridiculous? Such a stiff man, clashed completely with our heroine, who was rather passionate. Of course, her passion was more expressed in thoughts than actions, which was much more interesting. I liked the novel so much that not two days past when I rented a BBC-TV (1983) adaptation of the book, directed by Julian Aymes and starring Timothy Dalton (great portrayal of Mr. Rochester) and Zelah Clarke, which I highly recommend. I have seen two more adaptations of the book and one, (1997) directed by Rober Young, was a disaster. The second, (1996) directed by Franco Zeffirelli, is all right, but can't compare to the BBC-TV production. I recommend this book widely, not only to those who love classic literature, for to convince them of its worth would be comparatively easy, but to those who might hesitate before taking a book that presents a slower-paced, but more realistic world.
