Summary: For the brokenhearted
Review: I recently went through a traumatic breakup and was wading between feeling sorry for myself, and viewing it as a way to improve upon myself. I've taken a positive outlook but once that familiar demon of loneliness sets in it often leads to trouble. Cooper's book not only helped me to maintain my positive perspective, but the stories of these woman, in the language of my family and my ancestors, helped me to heal and forgive myself. There is a theme that runs through each gem of a story that says "No matter how bad things get you have to keep moving, keep trying, keep loving." These stories give me hope and keep me company, and they teach lessons of love that only experience and wisdom can tell. This is the first book of Cooper's that I have read and anyone that is revered by Alice Walker and Ntozake Shange was worth a look. I am officially a fan.

Summary: A must read for all women, especially the fast girls.
Review: I truly enjoyed reading this book. I felt extremely empowered and challenged to make the best out of my life despite what the world brings my way.

I really appreciate the time periods and location in which I envision the stories falling within (1930-1950 in the south). Being from the South, these stories remind me of simple wisdom and life experiences faced then and now.

Ms. Cooper, I love the inner you shown throughout your writings. Keep up the good work and I'll keep on passing your books along.

Summary: The Pleasure Was All Mine!
Review: I was shocked at first by the language, but I kept reading and I'm so glad I did..."the pleasure was all mine"! These stories made me smile out loud, cry and reflect on my life. The moral of each story is truely the reward from reading it. I highly recommend it to any single woman that has ever been in love, and I'm not talking about the younger ones, but those of you in the age group I am 40-45! It's wonderful, you'll definitely enjoy it. Again, the pleasure was all mine!

Summary: I loved it!
Review: I've been reading J. California for a couple of months now, and whenever I pick up one of her books, I usually can't put it down until I'm finished, and then I'm still looking for more. The stories are funny, sad, and realistic, all at the same time. You'll love this book if you like to read short stories.

Summary: Some Wonderful Gift
Review: The beauty of this book lies in the simplicity of its characters and plots. The majority are joyful, forgiving, loving, fun, and most stories are ulitmately hopeful. Some Love will teach you to approach life and relationships with a big heart; to cherish all that you have, without compromising yourself. Its honesty, imagery, and language are unforgettable.

Summary: One of the best books I've read
Review: This is my first j. california cooper book and it is now officially one of my favorites. She had me laughing out loud, giving real thought to my life and relationships and also really inspiring me and making me see love in a different but very hopeful and realistic light. The stories were dynamite. The voices she uses for her tales are terrific and make you feel the character's plight. She is now my favorite author.

Summary: Nothing less than excellent!
Review: This is only the second book that I've read by J. California Cooper and like the other book (Homemade Love), it was inspirational, funny and realistic. I love her work. It really makes you think about life and then gives you that little bit of encouragement that you need to get through your particular situation, whatever it may be. I look forward to reading more of her work.
