Rating: Summary: Psychological thriller with substance Review: Colapinto's "About the Author" is a fun to read, intense psychological thriller that will strike chords (and funny bones) with artists and authors - and those interested in writing and art. When thinking of a phrase to describe the style of this novel, I arrived at "modern drama noir."

The plot development (including twists), point of view/voice, and overall structure of the text are sound and engaging. I flew through the pages because the story was so interesting and entertaining. If you're seeking a philosophical treatise on art and literature, this is not it. However, there is enough substance in Colapinto's work to make this a great book.

 Highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: couldn't put this one down! Review: As you can see (below), some demented reader has claimed authorship of my book, About the Author. Much worse, he gave my novel one star, thereby dragging my overall rating down from four and half to four stars. Hence my now posting this review of my own novel (with five star rating) to try to get my average back up there. An author has to do what an author has to do--as my novel would suggest. Best wishes to all--and don't forget to read my other book, As Nature Made Him: The Boy Who was Raised as a Girl.
Rating: Summary: Stolen Ideas Review: Hello, I am the actual owner of about the author. I own the copyright, and have reserved the right to the Title "About the Author" Nither John Colapinto nor his publisher HarperCollins ever requested my permission prior to using my ideas. HarperCollins continually ignors my emails/mails. From what Iv seen HarperCollins seems to violate quite a few copyrights. Anyway, thats my beef. The book is not 100% identicle to mine but extremly similar and its an Ok book. check out my website for more info geocities.com/fivtcha Best Wishes All Justin
Rating: Summary: Well isn't that funny? Review: Being a writer myself, I can connect with Cal's struggle. Although I don't handle my writer's block in the *cough* erotic *cough* ways that he does, I really enjoyed his commentary on life in New York. I loved Stewart Church, the law school student/writer, who mistakenly shows Cal his writing. After Stewart is killed in a bike accident, Cal begins living Stewarts "should-have-been" life. He marries his old girlfriend, publishes his book and makes all his money. These strange coincidences in no way whatsoever make the book "dumb" and "unrealistic." This is a great novel and extremely fun and easy to read.
Rating: Summary: A perfect literary thriller Review: Cal Cunningham is a poor bookstore clerk in Manhattan. He has dreamed many times of becoming the writer of a novel that would send him to the top of the bestsellers list. When "Almost Like Suicide", the great novel based on Cal's life is published, it fulfils all his dreams. But is Cal really the author of the book. And what happened to Cal's flatmate Stewart, who died in a bicycle accident, and who had literary aspirations of his own? This literary thriller is wickedly satiric. Plagiarism, deception and blackmail are part of Call's not only planning his second novel , but also his first murder. A thriller as perfect as if it were written by Patricia Highsmith!
