Rating: Summary: Purrrrrrr Review: An excellent book!! This is one of the best of the Mrs. Murphy series. As always, Tucker, Mrs. Murphy and Pewter are a riot - and in this book, we see much more of Simon the Opposum, who is another lovable character. This book has some rather grisly humor (I won't give away more) that really perked it up - as well as interesting interactions between the various humans. In these earlier books, Miranda is really a character, and she is a lot of fun that way (Brown tones her down a little too much in the later books). I would highly recommend this book - especially to pet lovers everywhere.
Rating: Summary: wasn't exactly thrilled... Review: Being a fan of the Lilian Jackon Braun mysteries, and the Mitford Series, I thought I'd give these books a try for some "light reading" after seeing them displayed in Wal-Mart. I'm attracted to books about small-town living, animals, mysteries, you get the idea.I only read 3 chapters and decided not to finish. There was an large use of profanity, both from the human and animal characters. Not just common swear words, but ones that would get Ralphie's mouth washed out with soap (referring to the movie, "The Christmas Story"). If the use of these words had been less frequent, I could've overlooked them and continued reading, but they appeared too frequently for my taste. The level of frequency was something I'd expect from ...well I don't know - I don't read books with lots of swear words. Sorry, but I won't be recommending these mysteries to anyone I know.
Rating: Summary: A Good Read Review: Crozet, Virginia, is indeed a small town full of secrets and spite, and never more so than in this book. A dismemebered corpse turns up all over town in the most unlikely places. A new man, Blair Bainbridge, has moved to town. Everyone thinks he and Harry should get together, and emotions are running high. In fact, high enough for someone to kill? As Harry and the townspeople try and figure out who and why, the animals, as uaual, are a step ahead of everyone else. The climax is more suspenseful and dramatic than usual. Equally entertaining are the conversations in the post office when half the town is gathered together. Brown takes you on a humorous adventure, similar to a roller coaster, with half a town involved.
Rating: Summary: As True a Picture You'll Get of Folks from a Small Town. Review: I enjoyed this second book in the Mrs. Murphy series much more than the first, and the main reason for that is that the author has painted a true-to-life picture of what it's like to live in the country and in a small town. I certainly could see parallels to my own life in the descriptions of country living and folks helping others. Also, I didn't find the animals as distracting this time (maybe because I knew what to expect this time round). Anyway, the mystery in this book is a good one and it will keep you guessing until the end. In it we get to know Harry a little better, as well as her numerous wonderful friends. Ms. Brown does a good job of characterization for her somewhat eccentric cast of characters. The story starts with various human body parts showing up in very strange places. It certainly puts the citizens of Crozon on the alert and sets the stage for more murder and mayhem. All in all a pretty good read.
Rating: Summary: A great read! Lots of fun! Review: I found this book to be a great sequel to her first, Wish You Were Here. Read that one first if you can. The characters are so real that I felt I could drive to VA & actually meet them! Mrs. Murphy, Tucker and Pewter are a riot! Pet lovers, beware! You'll never look at your pals the same way after these books. Let's hope Harry & Blair get together eventually.
Rating: Summary: Another Great Mystery by Rita Mae Brown Review: In the second book of the Mrs. Murphy series, a male model by the name of Blair moves to town. Soon, Miranda begins her matchmaking with Mary Minor "Harry" Haristeen and Blair. Not long after, Tucker uncovers a hand by Blair's cemetary. Then, a torso is found in Big Mim's boathouse. Dismembered pieces of a murdered victim show up in unexpected places (my favorite part was when they found the head). As always, Harry and her two pets try to solve who the murderer was. At the same time, a new relationship may be developing between Harry and Blair. This book was a great read with a surprising ending. I figured out who the murderer was long before, but I had no idea as to why he murdered and etc. Again, I highly recommend this book, or any other books from the Mrs. Murphy series for that matter.

Rating: Summary: wasn't exactly thrilled... Review: In this book that I read was kind of boring but in a weird way I liked it. They make it interesting by having a murder and it was really unexpected the way it turned out. In the story there was one obvious killer but when they make it so obvious then you kind of think its not him and it wasn't him so that was predictable. Any ways there is this lady in the book and she was married to a guy named... well I don't know his whole name they just referred to him as Fits. So any ways they get a divorce oh yea Fits was married to a girl named Harry yes Harry. Doesn't this book get weird? Just wait till the end. So a male model moves into the lame town and he likes Harry. His name is Blair and every one thinks he is the killer when body parts turn up in the town after a strange man comes to town named Tommy. Ok so there are more murders that go on, the town is super nosy and get in the way of the cops. So it all comes down to this crazy shoot out in a barn. Oh I almost for got I can't tell you the ending but I will tell you that it will make you say "that's so lame" cause it's so unbelievable, and it involves plastic surgery. So anyways that's the story

Rating: Summary: Wonderful, Quirky Mystery Review: It's obvious that Ms. Brown really enjoys her life in Virginia because she writes so lovingly of the land and its people. The grisly deaths that each victim meets are so strongly contrasted against the setting of the peaceful Blue Ridge Mountains. I had read Wish You Were Here( is that title still in print?) and bought the next two in the series (Rest in Pieces and Murder at Monticello) at the same time. I absent-mindedly picked up Murder at Monticello and started reading it first. There is a character missing in that book, and because I read it first I figured out "whodunnit" in Rest in Pieces fairly quickly. So if you don't want to know "whodunnit" do not read Murder at Monticello before you read this book!
