Rating: Summary: A CONSTANT volume on my bookshelf Review: Dear Reader: Ms. Parker is indeed one the best reads you will have, this year or any year. She holds up after these many years because she is a craftsman - with a keen eye on the human condition . Her rivalry with The Winnie-the-Pooh famed A.A. Milne and her short, sugary, dark light verse make this volume well worth the purchase price. Bring back good conversation, bring back Dorothy Parker.
Rating: Summary: Delightful, Demonic, Quotable Review: Dorothy has a possession of the english language that is almost demonic, and coupled with her insight into the weaknesses of human nature (not to mention her own), her prose and poetry are witty, cutting and hilarious. Her poetry is short and quotable and her short stories explored the mundane and ridiculous of American Life far earlier than most writers. My favorites, however, are her book and play reviews. They are genius, and can leave you rolling on the floor. This is my favorite collection of Dorothy's work. I have found that collections of only poetry or short stories soon became tedious and extremely depressing (I wonder if Dorothy on Prozak would have produced such great work). This is an excellent volume for those just discovering Dorothy, and great to keep handy for a "little read."
Rating: Summary: The Great Literary Wit of the Jazz Age Review: Dorothy Parker was the great literary wit of her era. In her stories, she had a wonderful understanding of the way people talked back then; also, her writing style was easy without being bland, and intelligent without being overbearing. Her witty rhyming poems have great lines. Kind of like Mae West "one-liners" haha. Overall, she had such a great sense of humor, irony, sarcasm, tenderness, and pathos. David Rehak author of "Poems From My Bleeding Heart"
Rating: Summary: Pointless, Drippy, and Co-dependent Review: Dorothy Parker's stories are about as good for your mind as potato chips are to your heart. They're pointless, drippy, and nearly always about some co-dependent woman agonizing in unrequited love. Boo-hoo. Do. I. Care?
Rating: Summary: The most readable 20th century writer Review: Dorothy Parker's wit, sharpnes and sarcastic ways of expressing feelings in words makes her one of the best writers of this century. She goes easily from the darknes of the feelings poignantly described in "Symptom Recital" to the lightness of "The Dance". She has left us with a treasuret to be cherished forever, her books are always at the forefront of my book shelves. I very highly recomend her to anybody that is considering buyin her works.
Rating: Summary: Survival Kit Review: Every non-cheerleader, adolescent female should have a copy of this anthology. To quote George Bernard Shaw, "The power of accurate observation is commonly called cynicism by those who have not got it." Dorothy Parker specializes in acidic humor. From Resume to Unfortunate Coincidence to her short story the Waltz, Parker presents acerbic wit at it's best. This anthology helped me survive high school. You don't have to be depressed or pessimistic to appreciate Parker's poems and stories. Her humor is reminiscient of Shaw, Fielding and others: it's biting and casts no illusions over life, but presents the negative with humor. Also an excellent book for those who are single on Valentine's Day. ;)

Rating: Summary: One of the best books I have ever read Review: I am proud to have this work on my bookcase... as dog-eared and falling apart as it is. It is one of my favourite volumes, in its entirety - the poems, short stories, and columns. I wish I could write like that. An amazing book by an underappreciated and misunderstood author.
