Rating: Summary: Absorbing Review: Very interesting account of Parsee and Indian culture and everyday struggles of a common man in a society replete with traditions and supersitions. I loved the end....to believe or not to believe, that is the question!
Rating: Summary: BEAUTIFUL BOOK Review: WHAT A LOVELY ,THOUGHT PROVOKING,TOUCHING,HUMOUROUS BOOK!I AM A PARSI AN THE SAD THING IS THERE ARE'NT MANY FICTIONAL BOOKS WHICH ACTUALLY REVOlVE AROUND PARSIS SO THE REAL REASON I READ THE BOOK WAS BECAUSE OF IT'S PARSI AUTHOUR AN PROTAGANIST .THE BOOK WAS REALLY INTERESTING.ACTUALLY BEING A PARSI I UNDERSTOOD THE SUBTLE HUMOUR AN REALLY ENJOYED IT.THE BEST THING ABOUT THIS BOOK WERE THE REALISTIC CHARACTERS ,SO ECCENTRIC AND ENDEARING.MISTRY'S STYLE OF WRITING IS CAPTIVATING .THIS BOOK MAKES A WONDERFUL READ NOT ONCE BUT OVER AND OVER AGAIN.
Rating: Summary: Very Dissapointing Review: When I read Mistry's " A Fine Balance" I was totally captivated by his story telling and cast of characters. This book however was very dissapointing. The whole story seems to me like a number of short stories which are lumped together in a hurried way. Once again (read fine balance) Mistry tries to portray the Parsi characters as noble and kind hearted, and others as rascals or goondas. His style of writing so characterisitic in "A fine balance" comes to the fore only towards to the end of the novel. Overall a very bad read....
