Summary: Good Book
Review: A splendidly colorful book full of children's favorite stories. It can be, however, deceitful. Behind the familiar tales are the well developed plot twists, just as the Brothers Grim wrote them. The Frog Prince, for example, is a wonderful and familiar story of love. One might recall the famous kiss the frog pleads for for rescuing the princess's ball. Instead of a kiss, he is thrown against the wall of her room because she disgusts him so. In the enormous blow he becomes a prince. They ride away to the prince's kingdom in his carriage and they live happily ever after. Strange, no?
Many favorites with original twisted endings can be found in this classic book of fairy tales; a bedtime favorite.
I would recommend this book to any mature audience who would enjoy such strangely magnificent stories. 4 stars.

Summary: I Love this book!
Review: Although there are some stories in this book that I would not recommend for children, This is a great book for adults. I love the stories, and the Historical Commentary on the Grimm Brothers at the beginning of the book. This Book is much more exciting then the Disney Watered down tales!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Fairy tales:unwatered and uncensored
Review: An excellent collection of the fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm. Its good to find collections of their tales out there that are not just watered down versions. Jack Zipes, who has also translated wonderful editions of the thousand and one nights and a collection of French Fairy Tales(both highly recommended) does an excellent job with the Grimms and provides interesting commentary about the orgins of the tales. My favorite story in particalar was one about a tailor, I can't remember the name.(Yes, I know there are a million stories about tailors but this was the one where the tailor gets blinded and his traveling companion treats him horribly) This edition even includes all of the stories that were even too violent for the Grimm Brothers. One called "How Some Children Played at Slaughtering" is especially unappetizing. All in all I recommend this book to anyone who would like a little enchantment in their lives. By the way, the cover of this book is just gorgous, nice illustrations inside also.

Summary: Wonderful way to explore classical fairy tale literature
Review: As a child, I remember reading these fairy tales all the time. Now as an adult I am able to read them the way they were written. I do not recommend these tales for small children, as some are quite graphic and can be disturbing, but for an older audience or teenager this is a great way to get back in touch with your childhood and explore how these tales were meant to be read

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A great investment!
Review: Being a great fan of the brothers grimms fairy tales, this book was one of the best investments I ever made. It has countless stories to read for both adults and children. This book translates really well and also has the original german titles in the back. It covers all the famous tales by the brother grimms ever made with great detail. It even has some drawings among a few tales that add well to this wonderful book.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Amazing, enchanting, scary, fun, violent, gruesome, etc.
Review: I am presently having a ball going through these fairy tales which were collected by the brothers Grimm over a century ago. These 200 tales are enchanting, scary, lovely, fantastic, grisly, etc. Some of these tales are definitiely NOT for bedtime reading for youngsters. They will frighten children. That makes them great reading for adults! There is nothing else like these fairy tales in print. Buy these books and read a few each day. They are thoroughly entertaining.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Who Should Read Grimms' Fairy Tales?
Review: I believe anyone who wants to discover the origins and roots of their favorite fairy tales should read this book. Many stories, such as Sleeping Beauty and Snow White, are in this collection. But there are some differences in the content. Many stories are more violent and gruesome than the stories we are used to. Many tales end in a horrid death. Some stories are nothing like the ones known today. Hansel and Grettel has nothing to do with a candy house and a children-baking witch! Therefore, I would not recommend this book to young children or to parents who would read this to their children. Also, if you are looking for lots of pictures, this book is not for you. Out of the 55 stories, there are only about 15 pictures, which are hard to make out. Most of the stories run with the same theme of princesses and magical creatures. Therefore, I would have to recommend Grimms' Fairy Tales to avid readers who do not get easily disturbed by bloody descriptions or get bored by same-concept stories.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Not for children
Review: I bought this book for my sister to read to my niece. I was expecting the book to contain colorful and enchanting pictures - which it does not. The stories are also very gruesome - not the way I remember them when I was growing up. This book is meant for a mature audience. I do not recommend this book for small children.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Fairy Tales
Review: I do like this book but I really didn't think they needed a third edition, when the second one is perfectly fine.
This is the book to get for these classic wonderful fairy tales that we all have grown up with.
There the few stories that many people know all over the world and something that we all can enjoy, no matter how old we get.

Summary: Why these stories [are bad]...
Review: I have no respect for the Grimm brothers. Some of their stories are okay, but they are not at all morally correct. "The Peasant in Heaven" about a poor peasant & a great man who are waiting to get into heaven & Saint Peter lets the great man in & leaves the peasant at the gate. The peasant from outside hears singing & festivities & patiently waits until Saint Peter lets him in. Everybody welcomes the peasant w/ affection, but nobody sings for him or anything so he asks why & Saint Peter tells him that "a rich man like this does not come more than once in a hundred years!" WHAT THE???? How STUPID! Wealth has NOTHING to do w/ character! What sort of message is this to show kids in fairy tales? That if you're rich then you get received into heaven w/ much more joy?!

Another cruel one:
"Eve's Various Children" where Adam & Eve are kicked out of paradise & God is visiting them & they have all these kids. Some are beautiful & others are ugly. So Eve hides all the ugly ones & the pretty ones are lined up in a row for God to see. Then God bestows upon each a blessing such as they'll be a king, or a prince, a merchant, or a learned man. Eve sees this and thought that He would do the same for her ugly kids. Then God says to the ugly kids that they're going to be peasants, shoemakers, errand-boys, & to one he says, "Thou a scullion all the days of thy life." How evil! As Leo Tolstoy once said, "It is amazing how complete is the delusion that beauty is goodness." How dumb these stupid authors were to put this story in!! That goes against the teachings of the Bible to favor someone who is more beautiful than one who is ugly. Brains & characters don't go along w/ looks. UGH, THESE STORIES ARE SO STUPID!

Putting aside the content of these stories, they are very poorly written. There's so much repitition. The characters say the same lines over and over again. It's so easy to predict what's going to happen & a lot of endings have cruel & unusual punishments for minor offenses. They even contradict themselves by having someone RICH & UGLY, but they're supposed to be evil. And then the good guys are POOR & BEAUTIFUL. How twisted, huh? I hope the ratings for these stories will suffer. They're not even for kids. They're just dumb & gruesome. The Grimm brothers seemed to have a thing for cutting people's heads off at the end.
