Rating: Summary: It was to simple Review: I am a long time devoted Clive Cussler fan, I have to say that in Serpent there was a good plot,an exciting story, the heros were great ( though I miss Dirk and Al), but something was seriously lacking, it was too easy, I did not get the sense of the life and death struggle that I am accustom to in the in a Clive Cussler novel. The characters went through a great adventure ( I did love the cameo by Dirk and Al ) but toward the end Kurt and Joe seemed to breeze through the Andrea Doria and the final climax, I felt like I was left hanging, wanting more, unlike any Clive Cussler novel that I have read.
Rating: Summary: Sorry, Mr. Cussler. Serpent falls short of expectations. Review: I have read every Clive Cussler novel and, like most Cussler fans, can hardly wait for his next release. So I was excited to see Serpent on the bookshelf. However, as I read Serpent, I found myself trying to guess what, if any, contributions Mr. Cussler made to the story.I consider myself a die-hard Clive Cussler fan and hate to say it, but Serpent just doesn't live up to any of Mr. Cussler's other novels. Even Pacific Vortex, Clive's very first attempt at writing, is a much better book that displays a style and character that is unique only to Cussler. Sorry, Mr. Kemprecos. Although I found moments in Serpent that reminded me of Cussler's style, they were too few and far between. This only proves how difficult it must be to imitate the real McCoy. If it is any consolation, the book, although not great, is still enjoyable. Even a bad Cussler book is better than none at all.
Rating: Summary: Austin seamlessly picks up where Pitt left off. Review: I was slightly disappointed when I ran across a rather critical detail that went unnoticed by everyone that gave the go-ahead for printing. See if you can find it on page 99. Otherwise Austin and Zavala make for an unbeatable team. A couple of regular guys you can count on when the chips are down. Their resoursefulness and wit are non-stop. They put the H back in Heroic.
Rating: Summary: A fun read, but not as engrossing as his usual stuff Review: I was hooked on Cussler by my husband, who was able to overlook the often chauvinist overtones of the books. While I always enjoy the twists of the tale and action, I often found the writing a little "cartoonish", glorifying Pitt as more-than-man, less-than-god. So I found myself enjoying this book for following many characters and their adventures, including capable women working along with the men, leading them to the conclusion. The plot was not as exciting as past novels, and I figured out much of the end ahead of time, but it was a fair trade-off for a writing style I found more pleasing.
Rating: Summary: Wow! All This Excitement Without Dirk Pitt! Review: Disappointment reigned when I learned that the latest Cussler classic would not chronicle the further adventures of Dirk Pitt but "whoa"!!!, was I wrong. Like a fresh breath of excitement, Cussler embraces a new hero with all the panache of Dirk but younger and (by Dirk's own admission in an introductory letter) even more handsome and swashbuckling hero. As always, history is deeply entwined in the fabric of this thrill a minute classic. If you gave me the opportunity, six stars would go to this one!
Rating: Summary: sorry its without Dirk Pitt and Al Giordino Review: What's about the Novell Atlantis found. I've read in Clive Cusslers Dirk Pitt revealed, that there will be a new book. When will this be published?
Rating: Summary: Clive Cussler but not Review: I am a long time fan of Clive Cussler and when I saw Serpent in the book store I didn't hesitate I just bought. I hadn't noticed Paul Kemprecos as contributor but noticed quickly the different writing style. The cohesiveness of Cussler's writing did not seem to be there. This is not one of my favorites.
Rating: Summary: clever plot line and super ending. Review: I loved the characters and plot line of this book. Very smooth writing style and the ending was very inventive and intriguing.
Rating: Summary: Great. I love all of Cussler's books. Review: This book is as good as his other novels. The story line is good and the characters seem real. I hope to see more of these but I also want to continue to read about Dirk Pitt. I think the Dirk Pitt novels are a little better than this one although I have not been able to put this one down. Am looking forward to many more novels from Clive.
Rating: Summary: Boring !!! Review: Characters cloned from the Dirk Pitt series, but more bland. Heavy on research (guessing ??), low on plot, believeability, excitement, and all around general interest. Would have quit after a hundred pages, but the Author's name kept me going. My mistake!!
