Summary: Blew me Away!!!
Review: I absolutely LOVED this book!!! If you've read Trainspotting and loved it, this book is just as good, maybe even better. Almost as if Trainspotting just set up the characters for you first. I honestly couldn't put this book down, it's a must read- if you can handle the blunt and rawness of it. Very well written!

Summary: Good, but no Trainspotting or Glue
Review: I almost wish the characters of Trainspotting had been left alone. Almost. "Porno" brings back the gang as well as some key players from Glue, another recent work. Sick Boy is more or less the leading character this time, with the plot loosely revolving around the production of a porno movie. As usual, Welsh provides some keen insights on human nature and some amusing low-brow jibes, but I felt the story dragging out a bit, with a lot of the developments seeming to be perfunctory checklist items (the inevitable conflict of Begbie and Renton). Not as funny as Filth, not as groundbreaking as Trainspotting, not as deep as Glue...nonetheless Porno will provide a Irvine Welsh fix for those who deem it essential.

Summary: Good.
Review: I dont think Irvine Welsh will ever write a book as good as Trainspotting again, hes too structured now. Porno is so slickly edited its just like any other flash new book out on the market, unlike Trainspotting which was fresh, frenetic and jumped from place to place unapologetically.

Not to say this is bad, its enjoyable but not as satisfying as the original, not nearly.

simon is very "typical" sick boy, and he will never change. he makes me laugh at the cruel reality of life, i love it..... i also enjoyed the new characters involved in this latest "scam." cheers to sick boy and cheers to mr. welsh

Summary: Always an entertaining read, but not the best Welsh intro
Review: I have been a Welsh fan since reading "Trainspotting" (one of the few novels I have been able to enjoy after seeing a film). I am happy that Welsh has decided to revisit the characters from "Trainspotting," but was disappointed to find Sick Boy as the central character. I really enjoyed Nikki and her observations and Spuds struggles were a welcome diversion from Sick Boy's scams and mysoginistic retorich. Not as shocking as "Filth" or as groundbreaking and original as "The Maribou Stork Nightmares," but it is a fulfilling sequel to "Trainspotting." If you have not read Welsh before, start with "Trainspotting" or the excellent collection of short stories "The Acid House."

Summary: wow, just wow
Review: I have read all of Irvine Welsh's novels and this is one of the best. It kept me interested and at times, I just could not put the book down. This book did not disappoint me in any way. Simply fabulous.

Summary: beautiful
Review: I never cease to be amazed by this mans insight into human nature. His skill at representing many different characters points of view is astonishing. My favorite I.W. book is Filth, but I love all of his books, and this one did not disappoint me.The pacing is very good, and it is truly a "can't put it down" type of read.I truly felt sorry for Spud in the book, and the tension Welsh builds with the Renton/Begbie scenario is great. You just keep waiting for the moment they finally run into eachother. The book has many familiar themes in it - people winding eachother up, ... sex in strange places, drugs, pubs, and "schemies" His use of the language and style of writing are fantastic.Hope to see alot more books by Irvine Welsh.

Summary: Great sequel
Review: I was surprised to find that I liked this sequel to "Trainspotting" as most sequels fail in comparison. However, "Porno" holds its own largely due to Welsh's brilliant character-driven plots. You find yourself becoming quite attached to Welsh's zany characters and also find yourself laughing in stiches or in utter disbelief by their actions. If you enjoyed "Trainspotting" or "Maribou Stork Nightmares" this book is for you. Classic Welsh - a brilliant read!

Summary: A huge Irvine Welsh fan...
Review: I've been reading Irive Welsh's novels since I stumbled upon Trainspotting in 1996. I love Welsh's style of writing and his dark subject matter and themes. Although Porno cannot surpass Irvine Welsh's superb Trainspotting, Welsh allows reader to discover what happened to his lovable and not-so-lovable Trainspotting characters while introducing to the reader some new characters. I recommend the book to anyone who is an avid Irvine Welsh fan. I hope that Welsh has more in store for us in the years to come......

Summary: pedantic literate grunge
Review: If you like pedantic literate grunge... then this is the genre for you. If you want to feel like you are close to touching a dirty subculture but not actually tarnish your hands... just turn the pages of this book and experience some vicarious sex and drugs... all in a safe, highfalutin environment where you can still feel like you are an educated and concerned member of the literati... mention it offhandedly at a cocktail party in-between the salmon pate and the boring conversation your wife is having about the latest new yorker. Yet another work where the author is seemingly a ghost writer for other's experiences... stick to Burroughs or Selby or Carroll
