Summary: Engrossing Novel
Review: With a title like "Tapping the Source," no other book could have drawn me in more. Kem Nunn opened my eyes to an entirely different world full of things I have never experienced. Yet through his words, I experienced them. This new world is known as Huntington Beach. A place once full of beauty and the power of mother nature that now has become a place of dark secrets hidden by the surfing lifestyle. Ike Tucker traveled to this place in search of his missing sister, who is rumored to have been murdered by three prominent surfers, but instead he found himself intertwined in a lifestyle full of drugs and violence, which led him to discover something more horrifying than he ever expected. Kem Nunn not only takes you into this surfer mentality and party lifestyle, but with breathtaking imagery, he shows the beauty of mother nature and the true art of surfing. "The sea was dark and all around him slivers of sunlight simmered and vanished like darting schools of fish. On the horizon, the sun had begun to melt, had gone red above a purple sea. The tide was low and the waves turned crisp black faces toward the shore while trails of mist rose from their feathering lips in fine golden arcs. The arcs rose into the sky, spreading and then falling back into the sea, scattering their light across the surface like shards of flame." (Pg. 76) To say there was little depth to this book would be too critical. Rather than providing a deeper meaning, this book provides an adventure, a roller coaster full of twists and turns. Kem Nunn definitely provides an entertainment more than words. He takes you along with Ike on a journey that leaves you forever changed. "By the end of the third day, Ike felt that they had been there forever. His skin was burned dark and his hair was tangled with salt, streaked almost blonde at the ends. His back and shoulders ached from the long paddles, but that plugged-in feeling had not deserted him. He felt alive in a new way, and more confident now than any time he could remember." (Pg. 86) With words, Kem Nunn allows you to feel what Ike felt and experience what Ike experienced. By the end of the book I could still feel sun on my back and I could still hear the crashing of the waves. I craved the lifestyle that Kem Nunn had opened my eyes to. Although most of "Tapping the Source" was very entertaining, I did find the final twist in the end disappointing. It was very abrupt and hard to believe. There's not much I would change in this book, but if there were anything to change, the ending would be it. I have not read any other book written by Kem Nunn, but I was very pleased with "Tapping the Source" and I believe his talent is very evident in it. I would definitely consider reading another book written by him.

Summary: Engrossing Novel
Review: You here the phrase "I could't put it down" all the time, well here is an ocasion when this was actually true. Nunn is a terrific writer who writes in a nearly cinematic fashion, tremendous descriptive power combined with an engrossing plot line. If I were a film director I would definitely consider adapting this novel
