Rating: Summary: disappointing Review: The story line dragged with characters just there. I completed the book only because, as a Cornwell fan, I thought it had to improve. Unfortunately that did not happen.
Rating: Summary: Cornwell phoned this one in. Review: Disappointing. Cornwell hit one out of the park with "Hornet's Nest" and I was hoping for a repeat performance. She set a great foundation for a new series with Judy Hammer, but this book isn't it. Weak plot, weaker characters and sub-plots that add nothing to the story.
Rating: Summary: A review of Cornwell's greatest so far Review: Well, it was kinda odd reading a book that, for over 1/2 way, didn't seem to have a real plot! Just a load of different viewpoints by 20 or so characters...than paths began to cross and the whole thing fused into the most gripping piece of writing from Cornwell yet. Much better that Hornet's Nest. Can't wait to read 'Black Notice' which isn't out here in the UK just yet.
Rating: Summary: I've been reading it for months inbetween other books (5) Review: This book is really really boring to meI am trying to find reviews on this book from other people Usually I love her books - but this one is not fun for me at all
Rating: Summary: Stick with Scarpetta Review: With all due respect to Ms. Cornwell, her attempts at humor throughtout this book are simply nauseating as are many of the personalities. I am an immense fan of Cornwell's writing and will not let this ill-advised effort stop me from reading "Black Notice", but please leave the comedy to Seinfeld.
Rating: Summary: Better than Hornet's Nest Review: A diehard Scarpetta fan, it's hard to switch to the new series. However, Southern Cross has the makings of a good read....once you get past seven chapters of gutter talk. Patience and faith on Cornwell told me there would be a good story somewhere, but there was no good reason for the excessive foul language at the beginning. Once she was done with that nonsense, Southern Cross becomes a book Cornwell can be proud of. No it's not Scarpetta. A point which I bemoan. But Southern Cross has a good story that keeps the reader interested...if you can get past the early chapters.
Rating: Summary: Sick of Scarpetta, try another Cornwell Review: This is to counter a review by someone who said s/he wouldn't buy the book because of all the bad reviews. Scarpetta and her niece take themselves too seriously, to my mind, although Cornwell is a captivating writer. So I'm going to give this one a shot in hopes that the new guys aren't such mopers.
Rating: Summary: Offensive Review: I have purchased all of Patricia Cornwell's books and this one is trash. If you remove the gutter words it would only be about three pages long.
Rating: Summary: Classic Cornwell Review: As usual, Cornwell's character development is substantial while her plot leaves a bit to be desired. Her stories focus on the relatively shallow lives of her characters rather than the potential storyline. Clearly, Cornwell should shift her focus to developing her brilliant plot ideas in lieu of continually trying to expand new characters.
Rating: Summary: This book was rambling. Review: This book was hard to get into and enjoy. It rambled and took the views of several different people, it was hard to figure out who was the main charactor. I had it when the cat starting expressing his thoughts. I love the Kay Scrappetta series and was not impressed by this new series.
