Rating: Summary: Weak storyline, bad prose, confusing list of characters Review: The story has no real point. It seems to go nowhere fast and gives us no real reasons to want to finish. Sorry .. but she can and has done much better in the past. Lets hope for a return to the intense, spine tickling novels of the past and that this was just a one-timer.
Rating: Summary: a disappointment and not up to smooth flowing of other books Review: as far as i am concerned, the only redeeming quality of the book was popeye the boston terrier.
Rating: Summary: OH MY GOD!!!!!!! Review: People listen to me.... PLEASE !!!! This is one of the worst books I have ever read. Cornwell has written a book that lack everything that the english language demands. Do not, I repeat DO NOT buy this book. You will do better sending the money that you would spend on this book to your favorite charity.
Rating: Summary: Did not like it at all Review: Have always enjoyed Particia Cromwells books until this one. Too many charaters, rather confusing. No real suspense to it. Characters are rather blaw except maybe Weed. Romance with Bazil and Virgina is nothing you can relate to. Story is to wordy and jumps around to much.
Rating: Summary: Only junk food when you needed meat & potatoes Review: I was also disappointed in this novel. I do realize that authors must try different directions once in a while to remain fresh and explore their limits, but Southern Cross was filled with forgetable characters, a forgetable and fragmented plot, and a forgetable ending. I did find it humerous at times, but the whole book didn't quite make it into satire territory. As much as you don't want to, Ms. Cornwell, please return to Kay Scarpetta. We miss her and the excellent writing you did for her.
Rating: Summary: What a disappointment! Review: One of the few books I've read that I almost didn't finish. I read it all, but found no improvement by the end. Scheming animals??
Rating: Summary: Southern Cross is right-on! Review: Southern Cross is a refreshing change from the increasingly-dark Scarpetta series. The book is infused with light absurdity that relaxes you. The action is still there, and the interplay between the three main characters, West, Hammer, and Brazil, is very interesting. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series, as well as the next Scarpetta.
Rating: Summary: This is a tremendous social commentary: Sad yet hysterical Review: For all of you who want only death, morgues and realistic crime scenes, wait for Cornwell's next endeavour. For those of you who want to see a very funny social satire that soothes the pain while showing the reality of kids in the choas of gangs and crime, this one is for you. Southern Cross goes to show that Patricia Cornwell is a multi-talented author who can go to the depths of criminal horror yet can also take a "Far Side" view of life. The critics are wrong, this is a great book - if you have a sense of humor and a sense of compassion.
Rating: Summary: very dissappointing Review: I am an avid reader of all of PAtricia Cornwells books. I especially loved Hornets Nest. That is why I cannot understand this book at all. The characters are simply unbelievable and uninteresting. The prose at times is very bad and indeed sometimes the sentences really dont make much sense. The spelling is bad thr out the book or maybe they were all misprints. Please bring back Scarpetta fast !!!!
Rating: Summary: cannot believe she would put her name to this book. Review: Somelse must have ghost written this bood for Cornwell. Or else she must not have been feeling well at the time.
