Rating: Summary: Beautiful and Unusual Review: These stories are lovely, direct and unsettling all at once. Gavalda's writing style is quite distinctive, providing carefully chosen details and insights in a small amount of space. This gives the reader a snapshot of a particular person, relationship or situation in each story. Some stories have more action than others, some are humorous and others are tragic, but each is a gem. Although the stories are brief, I suggest reading only one or two at a time (if you can) to really savor them.
Rating: Summary: Ironic Humor, Exquisite Details Review: This collection of short stories, translated from French, brims with abrupt scenes, cliffhanger endings that are often ambiguous, shifting points of view, and close-up dialogues between well developed characters. Gavalda's stories ring with understated humor, humor often developed through very small details: the line of pork products sold by a doomed narrator, the precision of a country veterinarian living an ordinary life, descriptions of lingerie, particular items of furniture acquired in elaborate anticipation of becoming a couple.
Like an assortment of rich, hand-made chocolates: you don't want to finish.
Rating: Summary: I enjoyed it a lot!! Review: This was one of the most entertaining books Ive ever read. The author captured the different voices of her narrators very well and you never know if you'll have a twist of laugher or sad thought. Great read.
