Rating: Summary: Could not put this down Review: This was my first Deaver and I was very impressed. It had more twists, turns and surprises than a mountain road. I felt like I was getting an insider's look at an FBI investigation: politics being played, personalities clashing, the digging (no pun intended) it takes to catch someone this evil. I couldn't wait to see what happened next, and was too jumpy to sleep when I finished it. Loved it.
Rating: Summary: Deaver's Best Review: I've read several of Deaver's books, and this is his best. The plot is fast-paced and ultra-chilling. It's so nerve-wracking and gripping...plan to stay up until 3 in the morning and then go into work groggy for a few days. Plus, the ending is pleasantly scaled-back for a Deaver novel...only about a half-dozen or so twists in this one!
Rating: Summary: Whew! Review: I see that there are 98 reviews prior to mine.I'll be brief, then: buy it. It's worth every penny, and more.
Rating: Summary: Disappointing Review: Having read some of the reviews already posted I have to say that none of them reflected my feeling about the book. Though at first it entrigued and enthralled, the story unfolded to what was in the end a run off the mill 'thriller'. At times I found that the attempts to explain the 'science' behind the forensic analysis abit laboured, almost half expecting a flashing caption to appear stating "Here's the science bit". This is the first novel by Jeffery Deaver I have read, and despite his great reputation I must say I was left disappointed.
Rating: Summary: Not bad at all Review: This is my first Jeffrey Deaver book and I really enjoyed it. I would have to agree with some of the reviews all ready written that it was a bit far-fetched esp with the paper & writing analysis, but I suppose without that there wouldn't have been a story. Still, this is better than your average crime/thriller novels that are around at the moment & because I am always on the lookout for 'something different' but of the same genre, this was quite good. Highly receommended if you are fan of John Sandford or Dennis Lehane - although not quite as good as those two.
Rating: Summary: A PERFECT THRILLER Review: They dont get much better than this. I thought that I had read the best of Deaver by picking up his three Lincol Rhyme noves, but Devil's Teardrop is an even better read. The plot is frightening in itself. A mass murderer stalks the nation's capitol and the only person that can tell him to stop is killed in an accident. A retired FBI Agent and document expert, Parker Kincaid is called in to examine the only evidence they have and in turn find the killer. The plot has the classic Deaver twist and retwists, heroes that you cant help but chear for, and villains that leave you with nightmares. As always in a Deaver novel, people are not always what or who they appear to be and you are kept guessing until the last page. BRAVO. I dont give many books five stars but this one deserves it. I highly recommend it, "dig" yourself up a copy soon.
Rating: Summary: A Fantastic Book Review: As is typical Deaver has written yet another fabulous book, Tons of surprises and riveting writing will keep you glued to the page. If you like Connelly(The Poet) and Blood Work, you will love this book. Highly recommend.
Rating: Summary: Entertaining...... but far fetched Review: Having reading other Deaver books one knows what to expect from him, and he well knows you are expecting that because he tends to follow the same cliche: the introduction of the characters, the creation of an intrincate plot, and a bunch of tricks for the ending. At the same time one also knows that he has set the devil loose playing with the good guys and wonders who might be, this book brushes up on riddles and is a riddle on itself Near the ending, as usual, he will dump at top speed all the tricky aces he has concealed under his sleeve, disclosing the culprit and finding an explanation to justify each and every event , giving the answers to all the questions that every reader may pose to him (How he did that ?. How this could happen ?,.. It is not too much ?), (well, I do not agree with many of the answers, they seemed a bit far-fetched. The assets of this book: Deaver is showing again his quality as a top notch thriller writer displaying a great writing style and great character development (particularly Kincaid and the Digger), handling suspense as few other authors can do and showing that he has done a thorough research about what he is lecturing about, in this case (writing interpretation applied to crime investigation) and those facts show a lot of respect for his readers. ( I like this ! ) The liability of this book is the contrived ending, with lots of twist and turns in just a handful of pages which happen as miracles in a very short time (hours), making difficult to believe them, (...but a little fantasy in a book is not forbidden, is it ?..) In my opinion, for future books he has to make some changes in his plot schemes to surprise his avid old fans, who no longer get shocked with his twist and turns because they are expecting them.
Rating: Summary: Another Wild Ride By Deaver Review: Once again Jeff Deaver pulls out all the stops in "The Devil's Teardrop". Deaver takes the reader on another rollercoster ride that does not let up until the very end. His remarkable characters and very scary plot make this one of the best summer paperbacks out there this year. The story centers on shootings that occur on New Year's Eve 1999, in Washington D.C. An extortion note is delivered saying that the gunman will kill again at certain times unless the city pays 20 million dollars. Plus the note claims if the extortionist if caught or killed the gunman will keep on killing. Then the extortionist is killed in a accident, and the FBI headed by Margaret Lucus must find the gunman. She enlists the help of Parker Kincaid a document expert, to track down the gunman through professional assesment of the extortion note. Deaver use the timeline series so well in his book. It is very similar to "The Bone Collector" which there is a race against time before the next killings. All the characters are very well rounded and Deaver's devilish sense of humor pops up a lot in the dialogue. Once again there are many surprise endings so hang on tight!
Rating: Summary: Another, very good Deaver thriller Review: On the last day of the 20th century, a sociopath has meticulously planned a day of crime which will terrorize Washington D.C. He accomplishes much of the horror through a brain-damaged man who he controls like a puppet, and has been scheduled to commit machine-gun rampages at set times throughout the day. Deaver is a master at writing stories in which law enforcement is forced to work in artificial time-constraints, in order to prevent further disasters. In this case, the FBI calls upon a retired, and reluctant, questioned document specialist, Parker Kincaid, to analyze the killer's ransom note, and aid in his capture. This analysis was interesting, but not as fascinating as the forensic work performed by Lincoln Rhymes in other Deaver books (Rhymes, by the way, has a "cameo" in this book). While this was a very good thriller, I do not rank it as highly as other Deaver books that I have read. Despite the tight time factor of the investigation, I found that the book dragged, ever so slightly, at certain points. My criticism must be placed in context, however: I enjoyed this book, and simply have high standards for Mr. Deaver's work.
