Summary: I enjoyed this book....
Review: ....but found it confusing since I read Hotspur first. Apparently the author decided to ignore the details in Pete's will in the following books. (Doug to become Hunt Master, no Joint-Master.)

Summary: Good story.....even with the information overload
Review:

I really like Rita Mae Brown's work. I like the interaction between people and animals and I love that the animals usually figure out something's amiss long before their human counterpoints catch on.

OUTFOXED tells the story of a murder in the genteel Virginia countryside amidst the rigid regulations of the fox hunting crowd. While I enjoyed the story, I felt she gave her reader entirely too much information on every single detail of the hunt, the attire, the horses and the hounds. I'd be worn out before I ever cleared the first fence if I participated in the sport.

If you're interested, this book could certainly serve as a primer on the equine etiquette of the hunt. It was just a bit too much for me.

Enjoy!

Summary: A wonderful new protagonist
Review: Although there was a great deal of information about the intricacies of fox hunting, I felt they lent a depth and subtext to the plot and character of Sister. I love that the protagonist is a "senior citizen" who belies the stereotype of seniors as grannies in a rocking chair. This is an amazing woman, and I can't wait to hear more from her!

Summary: Gallops Along!!
Review: An excellent mystery that takes you deep into the world of fox-hunting, from the perspective of the foxes, hounds & people. Would be a great gift for anyone that loves a great mystery and horses. It truly does gallop along, was hard to put down.

Summary: Tally-ho murder!
Review: An exciting murder in the hunt field. Move over sheriff, it will take a special MFH and a pack of foxhounds to solve this one. Rita Mae Brown has done herself proud with this book. Once again, we are taken to the hills of Virginia to find a murder. If you love horses or the Mrs. Murphy series, this book is a must.

Summary: Murdoch sets contemptible standards by re-defining "news"
Review: As a former tv news photographer, I took issue with the Fox "News" channel focus on character assasination instead of reporting factual events and dialogue, as supported by other news networks. The singular coordinated attack in the form of established radio, television and print media, by the neo-conservatives, is more outrageous in its scope and breadth than all the propaganda generated in all the wars up to this date. If your blood doesn't begin to boil as you read this expose, you 'd better check for a pulse. Get it. Read it. Tell your friends watching Fox "News" they are watching the biggest hoax since "War of the Worlds".

Summary: A good book but not as good as I expect from RMB.
Review: As Rita Mae Brown is my favorite author, I liked this book and its subject was interesting even to a non-foxhunter. However, overall I have been disappointed in Rita Mae Brown's last few books. They lack the wittiness, intelligence and humor, and fascinating and mildly controversial characters of her earlier writing. I also noticed some inconsistencies in this book - such as the character Marty, who was called Marty for the first 3rd of the book and suddenly, inexplicably became Martha for the rest. The characters were not sufficiently developed for me to understand them or feel sympathy for their plights. I count on Rita Mae Brown's books to assume intelligence in the reader, and this book did not -- it spelled out too much for my taste. Let me figure things out! I also found some disturbingly sexist attitudes, which is quite different from Rita Mae Brown's usual style. I hope the next one is better.

Summary: Self-righteous
Review: As with all Ms. Brown's books, I found Outfoxed immensely readable. Yet as a former Brown fan, I found it also immensely disappointing. If I want Disney, I'll read (or watch) 101 Dalmatians. In humanizing all her animals, Brown shows her lack of true understanding concerning the lives of animals. I found that the novel's underlying bitterness detracted from it. Who is the Fontaine Burruss or the Crawford Howard in Brown's real life who wounded her enough for such a vitriolic nasty approach to life? This is a far departure from Brown's former novels. It is slight, stylistically poor, angry and self-righteous in tone. Outfoxed is very big on formula and completely lacking in literary merit. As a foxhunter for 25 years, I enjoyed the hunting, but others might find it a bit much.

Summary: Good Book for Equine Enthusiasts
Review: Enjoyable reading with accurate descriptions of "fox chasing" and the politics involved. Having fox hunted in the past it was fun to read the supposed thoughts of the horses, the hounds and the fox. Many of the characteristics of the hunt members could be attributed to members of real hunts.

While the mystery doesn't develop until somewhere around the middle of the book, it was enjoyable reading. It may also go along way to dispell the negative image fox hunting has associated with it today.

Summary: Expecting More
Review: From an author that I have come to think of as a favorite I was expecting more from this book. I was truly let down. The characters are well drawn, and I did learn a lot about fox hunting, yet neither made up for a lack of action ( unless you count the numerous hunts). If you love fox hunting then you will enjoy this book.. if not then I strongly suggest you read Rita Mae Brown's other books. They are much more enjoyable and fast paced.
