Rating: Summary: Damn good!!!!! Review: I have read all of Dick Marcinko's books and I think they're all great, this one especially. This guy actually knows what he's talking about. You should definetly read them all!
Rating: Summary: A big drop in quality. Review: I loved the first Rogue Warrior. Both of Marcinko's business books were excellent, though one was enough). Red Cell was pretty good, but after that they began declining in quality. I mean, there is the obvious formula to his books (which a commentor below mentions, it's amazing how he can never parachute out of a plane without something going wrong with his chute. I mean, I understand that things go wrong, but every time? And the things the character Marcinko does, I mean, there is no way that he would get away with it that many times. I respect Marcinko for who he is and what he has done, but I think he and Weisman need to get together and change things up for the next installment, or maybe write something different (i know i'd like to see more nonficiton like Rogue Warrior).
Rating: Summary: Go Shooting and Looting with Demo Dick! Review: I really don't have much to say about this book other than the fact that it is great fun, just like all the other books in this series. Demo Dick Marcinko is a great storyteller, and the action never seems to stop. The creative use of expletives alone is worth the price! It may not be an american classic, but if you need an interesting book to read, this is it. But, I must say, you will appreciate the book a whole lot more if you have read the previous works of Marcinko. His autobiography, Rogue Warrior, is a must.
Rating: Summary: good, but not much different from the others Review: I'm a big fan of Marcinko's and always enjoy each book as it comes out. However, the formula is always the same and the plots are too predictable for loyal readers of the Rogue series. I would encourage Dick and John to take some extra time and to come up with something new and exciting, as I'm sure they're capable of doing. A possible idea - writing some non-fiction about SOS Temps operations??
Rating: Summary: Just ONE reason this is better than the usual Marcinko stuff Review: I've read a lot of Marcinko's books and I have to admit they're starting to bore me. It's the same formula every time; Dick discovers a dirty politician or evil tycoon, has a verbal confrontation with him, goes away, comes back, kills the bad guy's ex-special ops bodyguards, and finally kills the bad guy. Somewhere in there he stops to talk about the size of his unit (and I don't mean the number of guys on his team). What makes Seal Force Alpha a little different from the norm is the amount of effort Marcinko has spent on setting up the enemy this time. The "ex-special ops bodyguards" that he usually chews through without much trouble are actually fearsome in this book! They're the Chinese equivalent of SEALs and Marcinko & Weissman really make them seem like they could give Marcinko trouble. The way Marcinko describes his fight in the river and his encounters with the Chinese commander are quite interesting and he manages to throw in some real surprises. The inclusion of obscure tradecraft details also makes these sequences quite thrilling. It's a good thing they're here, too--the rest of the book ranges from mildly intriguing to downright sloppy (the ending is very rushed). An average Marcinko book with slightly above average action scenes.
Rating: Summary: Dikie Kicks Butt, No Tears Review: If you want some insight into the convoluted politics of the Pacific rim look here. If you want a hair raising second by second account of a HALO assault (actually HAHO in this case) on a heavily protected outlaw freighter you`re in the right place. If you want a "hold your breath till its over" small unit action finale read on. To the author: Dick, Please leave the editor out of the story, he`s a civilian!
Rating: Summary: Classic Dicky. With a twist! Review: In the ongoing series "Rogue Warrior", Our favorite former S.E.A.L. team commander finds himself with new foes and familiar friends. Revealing once again more strategy of the ultimate commando force, and giving the forward, brash humor we've all come to love, this book is a must buy for ANYONE who has ever imagined themselves the hero conquering impossible odds. If you have ever read any of Tricky Dick's books you will definately love this one!
Rating: Summary: Nothing but butt-kicking throughout the entire book! Review: Marcinko all the way. With Dick and his band of merry mauraders, China doesn't stand a chance. Following the ten commandments of spec war is a must, especially: "Thou shalt, in thy Warrior's Mind and Soul, always remember My ultimate and final Commandment. There Are No Rules-Thou Shalt Win At All Cost." Basicaly in KISS(keep it simple stupid) terms: get the book!
Rating: Summary: Seal Team Alpha Delivers Review: Marcinko delivers, once again, with Seal Team Alpha. The story picks up where previous books have left off, offering the reader a familar style that is as much of an education on tactics and the special operation community, as it is an exciting story. Marcinko utlizes a writing style that involves the reader in all aspects of the plot. Often The author will break into the story to explain something of historical or strategic significance to the plot, this allows even a neophite to the technothriller to feel comfortable and educated about an often secretive world. Having read much material relating to the special operations community, I can vouch for the acuracy of the methods, equipment and tactics used in this book. The stories are well crafted and fun to read. Marcinko's "Rouge" humor, although shocking, is quite entertaining. This is a no holds barred, street fight of a book with no scared cows and no end to the action.
Rating: Summary: Marcinko is the king of hard-hitting action. Review: Marcinko does it again. Fun and action-packed, his books grab you by the balls and never let go. One of those authors who repeatedly gets great reviews for great books. As a former Navy Seal, I can tell you that the things he does are indeed true and can be taken at face value. For all the folks out there who want another non-fiction book from Demo Dick, you must all quit being idiots and remember that the Navy that spent 60 million dollars trying to put him in prison are the same folks making sure he doesn't give away any dirty little secrets in his novels. So I think another non-fiction book is out of the question.
