Rating: Summary: A pleasant enough read Review: This is the first J.F. Freedman book I've read. It is, in summary, a pleasant enough read, but nothing fantastic. The courtroom scenes are not what we've come to expect from top-notch writers, and the plot becomes unnecessarily involved. Still, though, if you are a fan of legal fiction it is a satisfying novel.
Rating: Summary: Very Entertaining Review: This was my first book by J.F. Freedman, I just ordered Above the Law. A real page turner. A very entertaining thriller.
Rating: Summary: Good soul searching story bad case Review: The interpersonal story in this novel of the lawyer Luke is a touching one. His struggle as he renters the world that he left after his divorce is a powerful story. The scenes where he confronts people he once knew in his old life are well written. They are written in such a way that the reader understands Luke's struggle, very few writers can write like that. The problem with this novel, however, is that the bulk of the novel is about the case Luke takes on. This part of the novel is non belivable. There are to many holes in the story and the conclusion of this tale is rushed and less belivable than the rest of the story. On the whole I would not recomend this book the good scenes with Luke are outweighed by a dull unbelivable court case.
Rating: Summary: The Disappearance is appealing Review: I really liked this read, it's a skin-crawler! Don't get me wrong, I didn't like most of the people & the subject is horrible, however, Mr. Freedman has written a fully fleshed yarn with the ingredients I insist in my reading: a difficult situation, shallow, vain villains and scarred, healing heroes. I'd make a guess at whodunit & I'd be wrong, so I'd bury my nose for another juicy segment. Mr. Freedman writes with excitement, care in details & a lustiness that makes for a fine read. END
Rating: Summary: Boring and predictable Review: This should be called "The Disappointment". The first hundred pages are well done. But as soon as the protagonist shows up the story loses momentum. For more than 200 pages there is just repetetive dialogue. It gets a little better when the trial begins. But any experienced reader knows after the first chapters who did it.
Rating: Summary: This Book Is EXCELLENT! Review: I could not put it down. A true "who-dunnit",combined with courtroom thriller. The characters are well developedand you really cheer for the down and out defense attorney who returns to try and save the day, and his own self esteem, all at the same time. Each time you think you've figured it out, the story takes you through to show you why our hero is thinking the same thing that you are, but why your suspicions(and his) turn out to be wrong. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and have already ordered the sequel!
Rating: Summary: Couldn't put it down! Review: I loved it. What a page turner. I finished it in a weekend - I usually only read on the bus to work but I actually read it over the weekend as well. A must read!
Rating: Summary: Breathtaking...sheer unrelentless unending mistery.... Review: If there is no entertainment and interest, then there is no link between the reader and the plot, as a result then the book ceases to exist and turns out into some scribbled sheets glued with a cover, but in "The Disappearance", things are absolutely the other way around, the author made a hell of a job conceiving this whodunit puzzle with strong court action drama. Worth reading, compelling, qualfies among the best legal-mistery thrillers I have ever read. No way to put it down, it is my first Freedman book and I cant wait to read all his others.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely WONDERFUL! Review: My favorite courtroom drama mystery EVER! This book was absolutely fantastic. You would never guess who was the killer. John Grisham needs to learn some lessons from J. F. Freedman. A definite success on this one!
Rating: Summary: Definite Page Turner Review: This was my first legal thriller by J.F. Freedman and it was great. I couldn't stop reading it. I even missed my subway stop because I was so absorbed in the book. Definitely worth picking up. I can't wait to read another one of his books.
