Summary: Fine Airplane Read, But It's All Been Done Before
Review: This is a nice paperback entry into the serial killer tracker genre. I'd recommend it for an airplane read or an afternoon by the pool, but I don't feel that the characters are fully fleshed out or that enough atmosphere was written into the book to qualify for a 5 star book.

I also felt that far too much time was spent referencing the lead character's backstory, without providing fulfilling answers. There is nothing more annoying than having a book turn into nothing more than an overt commercial for the author's other works.

The "gimmick" of this book is to set everthing in 1986, when the Serial Killer research was new. This allows the authors to repeat the basics of the genre (serial killers largely kill within their own ethnic group, etc.) yet not appear facile in their research.

The book is purely plot driven, with little support from characters. The main thrust of the psychological thriller, ie. why is the crime being done?, is tepid in this book and doesn't propel the reader.
