Summary: Great biocritical source book
Review: Here's a reference book you'll find in most libraries, but difficult to acquire elsewhere. The editior has provided biographies, critical literary commentary, quotations, waka translations, bibliographies. Only here will you find a collection of in-depth essays on historical Japanese women poets, playwrights, novelists and diarists. For a time, I found myself in the library again and again to look up references. Finally I set aside the book's rather hefty price -- it just seemed worth it! A great biocritical source book, very well written.
