Review: i don't care what a lot of other people said, this book is really funny and i really liked it. so did my friends. it's definitely as good as the giggler treatment, maybe better.

Review: I just finished reading this book aloud with my 7- and 8-year-olds. They were rolling on the bed laughing from the beginning. Although some of the jokes took some explaining (They had no idea why cacti lining the streets of Dublin was a joke), they revelled in the humor, the ads and the aging Chapter 6. The divergent plot would certainly challenge the straight-laced "See Dick run" reader, but today's multi-tasking, cartoon-watching, video-game-playing kids should follow along just fine. We've just ordered "The Giggler Treatment" and can't wait to read that one together as well!

Review: I swear, this book is about as bad as "The Giggler Treatment." Unlike The Giggler Treatment though, this books jokes aren't as sick. Also, it didn't focus at around 8 seconds of time. Those are the only good comments I have to say about that book. The rest of the book was about moronic talking lizards, a few fat and ugly reindeer, and a talking dog that somehow pees in a toilet. The dog somehow learns how to fly, and the rest is history. The book was so pointless, that I threw it down before I even got to the end of it. I also hated the way Roddy Doyle messed around with the chapters. I mean he wrote Chapter6 about 5 times and he did the same with about every other chapter. It's like come on, like this is funny. This book definately deserves one star out of 5. Don't read this book.

Review: I was disappointed by... rave review for this book (which prompted our purchase). I haven't read any others in the series, but if they're similar, parents would do well to note my concerns. While this book is listed as appropriate for kids aged 9-12, it is really difficult for a 9-year-old to manage. It reads something like a sitcom script, with commercials included -- lots of fast cuts from one scene to another; wisecracking asides (many of which are probably only funny to those with a developed sense of irony, i.e., adults -- my daughter didn't laugh at all); and line after line of unattributed dialogue (no "he said" or "she said"), so readers are often confused about who said what. My daughter first read it silently, then I read it to her aloud, and it was still tough for her to follow. This would more likely appeal to those at the upper end of the 9-12 age group (although the "poo-poo" humor probably wouldn't appeal to kids that age), but it's very hard for some younger kids to follow. When the story follows a rare straight line for several pages it can be fun.

Review: My 7 year old devoured this book in 2 days. Amid the sporatic chuckles came the inevitable "hey ma, listen to this.."
as he came upon a particularly comical snippet that begged to be shared. This book sparkles with a unique charm, from the off-the-wall characters to the ever recurring chapter 6. The humorous, yet unsavory competition of 2 different advertisers dispersed between the pages offers a unique sense of the pervasive capitalization that only Christmas can bring. Don't worry if you dislike the ending of the book, for it offers a variety of conclusions for you to choose from. The lighthearted illustrations complement the book very well.

Review: Roddy Doyle has indeed done it again. This book ( a sequel to The Giggler Treatment) has all of the traits that made the original a must read book, wit, intelligence and a great sense of fun.

Rover is not your basic 'dog next door' and neither is the book. As you might expect, Rudolph has decided not to guide Santa's sleigh on Xmas Eve and it is up to Rover to make sure that all the good kids in the world get their toys.

If anyone has read "The Giggler Treatment" to know what to expect. A fun romp where the reader (from 8 to 80) never knows quite what is going to happen next, but that the gifts will arrive on time.

Unlike some authors Roddy Doyle does not insult his reader, while giving them an exciting and playful story.

Read the Giggler Treatment to your class first if you are a teacher like I am , and then expect your class to want this book!

I read it and was laughing out loud. It is a simple story--Rudolph goes on strike and Santa needs to use Rover, the dog. The short chapters are hilarious, and the illustrations are beautiful. Some situations are absurd, and this absurdity is reinforced by the way the novel is structured (with recurring chapters and ads).

Doyle has a great, multi-layered sense of humor, that borh children and adults will enjoy. He reminded me a lot of Terry Pratchett.

Review: This is a great book. It is so, so funny. It is a great Christmas book. I love the author, he writes really funny and entertaining books. I think it was as good as "The Giggler Treatment." I can't wait for his next book for kids.
